Fall 2019

Dear Classmates:

Last month a letter of invitation came inviting to a class reunion for a 60-year reunion, at Luther’s Homecoming. I wrote back saying thanks but my 65^th was two years ago in 2017.   That letter came from someone who lived across the street from us and I knew him and his roommates living at Jacobson's.  We lived at the lower level house owned by George and Shirley Knudson.  George was a professor in the chemistry department.

This letter is to encourage us to reach out to our classmates and share our life's journeys since 1952.

I enrolled at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. and graduated in 1956. I met Margene Johnson, the secretary for the Campus Pastor of the L S A of the University of Minnesota. We were married on August 21^st of 1954 at Grace Lutheran in Minneapolis. We have two daughters and three sons living in MN, WI, TN, and CO.  My internship was at Mount Hope Lutheran Church in West Allis, Wisconsin. I served as Chaplain in the US ARMY NG 47th Division.  We served churches in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Arizona. I retired in January 1996 and later moved into Royal Oaks Lifecare Community in 2011. Margene died August 13th of 2017.  I am active in the Celebration Choir, the Christo Hand-bells, and the Ah-Men Singers at American Lutheran Church of Sun City, Arizona.  Still serve as the narrator of the Concert Band.

Orvis Egeness writes, “My wife and I celebrated our 55^th wedding anniversary this September, 2019.  We have two daughters and two grandchildren. After graduation I spent two years (10/1952 to 09/1954) in our U.S. ARMY serving in the Finance Corp near Salzburg, Austria. While at Basic Training in Ft. Riley, Kansas I met several Luther College friends. My accounting career started in Chicago, Illinois and then received a transfer to the Bay Area in California, while living in Palo Alto.  Retired in 2000, and then moved to Lompoc, CA and then eventually moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I have been active in our church and the Scandinavian Club of Albuquerque.”

Two of our roommates, Donald Rem and Vernon Haas have not responded, in spite of the best efforts from the Alumni Office.

And so this suggestion is to go into your portal and type in the names of your roommates.  Their information will appear and addresses will be available to you. If you have trouble, call the Alumni Office at Luther and they will be able to help.

OBITUARIES

Joyce Margaret (Uren) Brennan of Lansing, Iowa, died Oct. 7, 2018, age 88.

Erno Joyce Dahl of San Antonio, Texas, died March 12, 2019, age 90.

Melton Robert Frahmann of Clearwater, Fla., died Feb. 2, 2019, age 91.

Sheldon Hermanson of Glenwood Springs, Colo., died March 19, 2019, age 88.

Charles E. Olson of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died Oct. 26, 2018, age 90.
