Class of 1993 Spring Letter

Spring 2012

Dear Luther ’93 Classmates:

I was recently scrolling through Leif’s Fall 2011 class agent letter, re-reading about the different paths we have all taken in our chosen professions, and frankly pretty awed by it all.  The class of 1993 is making a difference in our world in so many ways.  We have anthropologists, educators, and physicians.  We have social workers, nurses, stay-at-home moms and dads, musicians, small-business owners, and at least one national park ranger.  We have people traveling far-flung corners of the world to make an impact, and those resettled in their hometown to help prepare their childhood community for the next generation.   The list goes on (literally – see below for more)!

I am so fortunate to have spent with you our launching point for all of this – a few great years in a beautiful little town in northeast Iowa.  What I so appreciated about that experience is none of us were labeled by what we would “be” someday.  Rather, we were encouraged to think for ourselves, be creative, and follow our passions – and the result is that elusive “someday” is right here, and we are doing exactly that.

I will put in an early commercial that our TWENTY-year reunion takes place in the fall of 2013.  (Homecoming is Oct. 4-6, 2013.)  Why do I mention this now?  Hotel reservations fill up FAST.  By the time you receive the next class agent letter in the fall of 2012, it will already be past-due time to call or go online and make your lodging reservations a year in advance!  Leif and I plan to see you there!!

Please continue to keep Luther in mind as you consider your giving decisions for 2012.  Take a few minutes to browse the website www2.luther.edu to see the terrific happenings at our alma mater.  Giving is easy with a couple of clicks at www.givenow.luther.edu.   I’d love to see our percent of giving as a class rise steadily between now and the big 2-0 reunion!

I have to say it gave me pause to see pictures on the website of students lounging on the library lawn with their laptops.  Unheard of in our day…back then I was still fighting a losing battle with the C.A.R.L. system in Preus Library…anyone else remember that?

My best to you all in the spring of 2012!

Don't forget your Annual Fund giving!
Each year nearly 10,000 alumni, parents, and friends support the Annual Fund with gifts from $5 to $50,000. Strong support from alumni helps Luther secure additional funds from foundations and corporations, and your gift each year helps us reach our goal of 30% alumni giving.  Here’s how your class—and surrounding classes—did in 2011:

Class of 1992 total giving in 2011:  $26,096 from 20% of the class

Class of 1993 total giving in 2011:  $19,760 from 17% of the class

Class of 1994 total giving in 2011:  $47,385 from 19% of the class

Your gift can boost the impact your class has on current students!  Please use the enclosed envelope or visit  givenow.luther.edu to show your support.   Thank you!
