Class of 1994 Spring 2019 Letter

Dear Members of the Class of 1994:

By the time you receive this, Luther student musicians will be playing and singing at full tilt. Collegiate Chorale and Cathedral Choir have just returned from tours of the Midwest, and Jazz Orchestra sets out April 12 for a tour that includes South Dakota and Minnesota (luther.edu/music/jazz-orchestra). On top of that, Nordic Choir sings with the Des Moines Symphony April 27 and 28 (dmsymphony.org/events). If you are in the area, try to take in some of the events featuring these great groups.

The class of 2019 will celebrate Commencement on Sunday, May 26 (luther.edu/commencement/). That also means Luther will soon bid farewell to President Paula Carlson, who plans to retire at the end of the 2018–19 academic year.

With the graduation of the Class of 2019, we are reminded that we are now into the 25th anniversary year of our graduation in May 1994. We have formed a reunion committee and are working on a gathering including great food and drink, music and camaraderie. In addition, we are working on a surprise or two as well that will set this party apart from others in the past.

Of course, the weekend will culminate with our reunion dinner on Saturday, October 5, 2019. The committee will also be working on some group events Friday evening, October 4, and a possible group gathering for the parade Saturday morning.

Finally, members of the committee will be in touch to discuss financial contributions towards our class gift. The class gift will assist with initial funding for the Class of 1994 endowed scholarship, which is being created in honor of this special anniversary.

Please be on the lookout for more information on what should be a memorable weekend. Make plans to join us! Best wishes for a happy spring, and I look forward to seeing many of you in October.

Cheers,

Konrad Urberg

As you may remember from your Fall 2018 Class Agent letter, Luther has recently completed an extensive brand strategy research process.

As a result of our research and in collaboration with members of the Luther community, we have developed several statements that will guide future communications.

We know that you, our alumni, are often asked about your alma mater. What you say to prospective students and their families about Luther College can have a huge impact on their decisions to visit campus, apply and, hopefully, enroll.

You know Luther well. You matter to us and we’re interested in hearing from you.

We invite you to take a few minutes to preview some of our new statements and share your thoughts. The example statements, as well as a response survey, are available online: luther.edu/alumni/brandsurvey

Many thanks!
