Sylvia Adrene (Moe) Overlund, was born on July 20, 1924, in Tioga, N.D., and after a short illness, died on Oct. 26, 2014, in Portland, Ore. She was the daughter of Carl A. Moe and Mabel Dagny (Olson) Moe.

In the mid 1940's, Sylvia went to Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland where she graduated as an R.N. She then attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Issaquah, Wash., where she met Ervin Overlund. They were married on Nov. 25, 1954, in Minneapolis. Sylvia worked in various hospitals and nursing homes across Minn., and N.D. She also faithfully served the church in many capacities as a pastor's wife. In addition to working, cooking, cleaning, and caring for her children, Sylvia enjoyed gardening, quilting, and reading. She also enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and Clue. In 1997, she and Ervin moved from N.D., to Beaverton, Ore. After Ervin's passing in 2012, she moved to Russellville Park, a retirement home in Southeast Portland.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 57 years. She is survived by her children: Ruth (Bob) Gorham, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; Mary (David) Sluke, Grafton, N.D.; Timothy Overlund ’80 (Hanna Petros), Seattle; Joel (Theresa) Overlund, Beaverton, Ore.; and Rachel (Cully) Waggoner, of Miami. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kari (Ryan) Edmondson, Jenn Sluke, Lori (Elliot) Steinbrink, Oscar Overlund, Sakke Overlund, Rebecca (David) Caldwell, James Moore, Thomas Overlund, and Kenneth Waggoner; and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Adeline Kvam, Lillian Huston, Melvin Moe, Caroline Felber, Lester Moe, and Ilene Hove Cooke.

Services were held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Beaverton, Ore., on Nov. 1, 2014, and inurnment was at Valley View Cemetery in Silverton, Ore. Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton was in charge of the arrangements.
