Eric O. Giere, age 88, of St. Louis Park, Minn., passed away Feb. 2, 2016. Preceded in death by parents, Dr. Richard W. Giere and Laura Forde Giere. Survived by wife of 46 years, Beatrice; children, Christine (Michael) Banker, David Giere, Thomas (Becky) Hennessey, David (Millah) Hennessey; sister, Priscilla (Giere) Teisberg ’51 (Carl Teisberg ’50); nieces, Cindy (Teisberg) Hewitt ’77 (Ronald), Susan Goodwin (Greg), Caroline Ostrom (John Karthaus). Also survived by many grandchildren, grand nieces and grand nephews, great friends and colleagues.

Eric was a graduate of Washburn High School, Luther College, the University of Iowa, and attended the Curtis Institute of Music.

Music was his life. A professional musician since age 15 playing clarinet and saxophone, Eric was a member of the Twin Cities Musicians Union Local 30-73. He was also a tenor soloist for many Twin Cities churches, serving 12 years as principal tenor soloist for Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Memorial service was Feb. 20, 2016, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Private interment. Memorials preferred to Thursday Musical Scholarship Fund and Magdalene Forde Preus Music Scholarship Fund at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel.
