Rev. LeRoy G. Peterson, 93, died Sunday morning, May 29, 2016, at Fennimore Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore.

LeRoy was born March 10, 1923, in Westby, Wis., the son of Anton and Martha (Ruud) Peterson. He was united in marriage to Wilma Christopherson June 21, 1975, at Castle Rock Lutheran Church.

LeRoy graduated May 28, 1941, from Westby High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 until being honorably discharged in 1946. LeRoy attended and received a B.A. degree in May of 1950, from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He returned to school, receiving his B.D. degree May 28, 1961, from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Pastor became ordained March 17, 1963, at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. He served at that church from 1963 to 1965, until being called to the Trinity Lutheran Church and Hickory Grove Lutheran Church in Boscobel from 1965 to 1968. Pastor lastly was called to Castle Rock Lutheran Church beginning in 1965, serving 25 years until his retirement in 1990. LeRoy also drove bus for Fennimore School District for 18 years and worked as a painting contractor.

LeRoy found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Grandpa Pete” looked forward to seeing his new bundles and always welcomed them with open arms. The Rev. LeRoy Peterson was a wonderful and caring man who was devoted to his wife, Wilma, his family, and most importantly his Lord and Savior.

LeRoy is survived by his stepchildren, Elaine (Gary) Kreul of Fennimore, Linda (Jim) Lepeska of Montfort, and Eugene Christopherson of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Wilma, Sept. 2, 2014; grandson, Dale Havlik; siblings, Margaret (Frank) Bachman, Lorraine (Michael) Anderson, Carol Marshall, Isabel Hayek, Howard “Monty” Peterson, Evangeline Peterson and Ervin “Tony” Peterson.

Funeral services were held June 2, at Castle Rock Lutheran Church, with burial following in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation was held June 1, at Larson Family Funeral Home, Fennimore. Online condolences may be made at www.larsonfuneralhomes.com.
