Norman J. Hanson, age 82, of LeRoy, Minn., passed away Feb. 18, 2018, at Twin Rivers in Cannon Falls, Minn.

Memorial Services for Norman Hanson were held Feb. 23, 2018, at LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with Rev Herman Bakker officiating. Burial took place in LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery, LeRoy.

Norman J. Hanson was born Feb. 9, 1936, to Otto and Alma (Lovestuen) Hanson in Roland, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Roland High School in 1954. Norman was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1956-1958 as an instructor. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Norman went to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Luther College and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri. He started teaching in the LeRoy-Ostrander School District in the early 1960’s and taught there for the majority of his career as a science teacher. On Aug. 13, 1966, he was united in marriage to Janet Hetager at Calvary Lutheran Church in Hendrickson, Minn. He loved doing wood working, fishing, and hobby farming.

Norman was active in the LeRoy Lutheran Church, LeRoy Lions, 4-H and the LeRoy Area Historical Society as Treasurer. He loved to attend a couples Card Club and announced for LeRoy-Ostrander High School football games. Norm participated in the State and National Teachers Organizations, he was a Sunday school teacher, was on the Church Trust Board, and volunteered for the Mower County Red Cross Disaster work for floods and tornadoes.

Norman is survived by his children Keith (Amy) Hanson of St. Peter, Minn., Beth Hanson of Red Wing, Minn., and Jeff (Shannon) Hanson of Goodhue, Minn.; eight grandchildren: Taylour Hanson, Samm Hanson, Rhys Hanson, Clare Zadra, Marin Zadra, Tyler Hanson, Josh Hanson, and Riley Hanson; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, and two brothers Harley Hanson ‘50 and Orlin James “Jim” Hanson.
