Margaret "Maggie" (Syverson) Gillard was born in Faribault, Minn., on March 23, 1948, to Kenneth L. and Ingaborg Syverson. She graduated from Wanamingo High School, Luther College, and began teaching at Claremont High School where she met her husband Thomas Gillard. After teaching in Menomonee, Wis., she was hired to teach history at Apple Valley High School until she retired. She earned her Master’s of Education degree from St. Thomas.

She is survived by her loving son Tavis (Casey), cherished grand-daughter, Kari Marit; two brothers, two sisters-in-law, three sisters, two brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marit; husband, Thomas; brother-in-law, John; both parents and sister, Marie. She died unexpectedly at her home in Rosemount, Minn.
