Karen Hall Johnson

Karen Hall Johnson of McKinney, Texas, passed away on July 9, 2018, at the age of 74.  She was born on April 13, 1944, to Walter Hall and Synnave (Sandnes) Hall in Teaneck, N.J. Karen grew up in Bergenfield, N.J., and graduated with a Sociology degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She married college sweetheart and love of her life Phillip Warren Johnson ‘66 on Nov. 7, 1975, in Dallas. Karen worked initially as a social worker and later, along with husband Phil, became an entrepreneur owning several businesses in the Dallas area. She owned and operated Karen's Hallmark stores in Allen and Plano for twenty years. Karen served the community as a volunteer for the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center and the Allen Chamber of Commerce. She sold her stores and retired in 2005, after losing Phil to cancer. Karen enjoyed her time being Nana to her four grandsons, with whom she was very close. She spoiled her family every year with summer trips to the beach. Karen was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed passing on family traditions to her daughter, son in law and grandsons. She was a talented painter and spent many years Rosemaling, a form of traditional Norwegian folk art painting. 

Karen is survived by her daughter, Christine Stockmoe and husband, Lyle of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Bradley Stockmoe, Andrew Stockmoe, Parker Stockmoe, and Collin Stockmoe all of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Peter Hall of Loudon, Tenn., and Steven Hall of Sherman, Texas; sister, Christine Johnson of Sachse, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Phillip Warren Johnson ’66, and parents, Walter and Synnave Hall.

A memorial service was held July 18, 2018, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Inurnment followed at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas.
