Douglas A. Reasa of Hartland, Wis., found eternal peace on July 20, 2018, surrounded by his family at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Gean Reasa and his sister, Gaylene Flood (Michael). He is survived by his daughters, Jill Harte and Jane Mittelsteadt (Eric) and his grandchildren, Galen, Kenyan and Finn Harte, and Kai and Annika Mittelsteadt, as well as his sister, Georgean Bidlingmaier (Robert). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Doug will be dearly missed by all of them and held in their hearts forever.
Douglas was born in Albany, Wis., June 11, 1938. He attended school in Albany and graduated in 1956 as Valedictorian. He attended Luther College and received his bachelor's degree in 1961. Then he attended Medical School at the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1965.
He was drafted and served as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the Army, from 1966-1968, including serving a year in Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam, Doug served as part of a unit which treated the injured soldiers as they were airlifted out of battle. Amidst the chaos of war, Doug still appreciated the beauty of the country and was known to express a belief that it would someday be a wonderful place to visit.
He completed his residency in Radiology at the University of Iowa in 1971. Doug worked as a radiologist at St. Michael's Hospital from then until his retirement in 2006. While there he served as President of the Medical Staff from July 1, 1994, until June 30, 1996. He was very passionate about his work. One example of his dedication to his patients and co-workers was demonstrated during a severe winter storm with no passable roads when Doug woke early so he could cross country ski several miles to get to work and do the job he loved.
Doug was an avid sailor and spent many hours at The Milwaukee Yacht Club and sailing on Lake Michigan with his family on their boat, Radiant. He and his family also spent many years boating and water skiing on North Lake where he made many friends. Doug also enjoyed curling and golfing and formed lasting friendships at Ozaukee Country Club, Milwaukee Curling Club, Kettle Moraine Curling Club and Chenequa Country Club. His other interests were running, biking, cross country and downhill skiing, traveling and wine. Everyone who knew Doug, knew him as a kind and generous person with a big heart and a lifetime love of learning.
There was a celebration of Doug's life at Chenequa Country Club, which is located at 6250 WI Hwy 83, Hartland, WI 53029, on July 27, 2018. Donations can be made in Doug's name to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha, Habitat for Humanity or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Waukesha Memorial Intensive Care Unit, as well as the Staff of AngelsGrace Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
