Joan LaVonne (Scharberg) Thoreson

Joan LaVonne (Scharberg) Thoreson, 87, peacefully passed away May 12, 2018, while residing in Lilydale, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Alice Scharberg and her brother Alan. She was survived by her husband, Ted Thoreson ‘52 whom she met at Luther College in 1949 and together they enjoyed a devoted marriage of 67 years. She is also survived by their three daughters, Karen Thoreson (Augy), Patti Bauer (Mark) and Julie Seykora (David); her three sisters: Mavis Strandlie (Clayt), Dorothy Kruger (Bob), Ann Hein (Rick); two dear grandchildren Ted Seykora and Lauren Crepeau (Adam) and four Crepeau great grandchildren, Ava, Henry, Freddie and Davey.

Joan was an extraordinary wife, mother, sister, grandmother, Nana and friend to people across the U.S. and Europe. She was an incredible homemaker and also worked as a CPA tax assistant for 10 years to help put her children through college.

For 60 years, she was an outstanding golfer in Minn., and later in Venice, Fla., where she and Ted resided for 20 years. Joan is remembered for her profound care for others ahead of herself, especially her husband, and her talents and enthusiasm in multi-disciplines such as woodcarving, sewing, Norwegian cooking, furniture refinishing, and cross-country skiing.

The family thanks the Villas of Lilydale for their nuturing environment, Allina Hospice and N.C. Little Hospice for their support and care in Joan's last days.

Memorials can be made to Atonement Lutheran Church, 1144 29th Ave. N, St. Cloud, MN 56303. Services and a Celebration of Life were held there for Joan in June.
