Edward Walter Barth, 1951

Winter 2019 (January 31, 2019)

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward “Ed” Walter Barth announces his passing on July 19, 2018, at the age of 88. After an extended decline, he died of a broken heart at the loss of his wife, Ruth Jane (Richmond) Barth, on Dec. 33, 2017. They have been inseparable for over 63 years and are now reunited. They are lovingly remembered by their three children: Edward (Daphna McNight); Patricia (Curt) Hintze, and their daughter, Beth; and Paul (Terry Harris), and their children Maggie and Ian; and his remaining brother, Jim, and sister, Esther.

After returning for the Korean War, Ed attended Library School at the University of Denver, where he met his future wife, Ruth Jane, who had recently returned from a year overseas in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They married that Dec., and after completing their Master’s degrees, they honeymooned in Yellowstone National Park, and moved to San Diego, where their children were born. Soon after their last child was born, they moved to Rockville, Md., to be near Ruth Jane’s parents, and stayed in the same house for over 45 years.

Ed completed his Doctorate in Education at George Washington University and ran the Prince George’s County Public School System’s Library for many years. He devoted his life to helping other people. He gave over three gallons of blood to the Red Cross, served his church for many years, and most recently was a Carroll County Senior Center Ombudsman.
