Arlawayne “Arly” C. Rosendahl, age 92, of Decorah, died Oct. 1, 2018, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

Funeral services were Oct. 4, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Arlawayne “Arly” Clarice (Doerr) Rosendahl was born June 11, 1926, at the family farm near Burr Oak, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gina (Espeseth) Doerr. She was baptized June 18, 1926, by Reverend Glesne. She was confirmed in First Lutheran Church in 1940. She attended Decorah Public School and graduated from High School in 1944.

She attended Luther College’s two-year teacher program and graduated in 1946. She married Virgel Alfred Rosendahl at First Lutheran Church, March 2, 1947, with Pastor G. Frost officiating. She taught rural schools and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

She and Virgel moved from Decorah to Cedar Rapids, lived in Marion, then moved to a farm near Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She taught school in Waubeek, Central City and Mechanicsville for a total of over 20 years. Arly loved to sew. She liked to make doll clothes for the dolls that she loved and for dolls to be given to children at Christmas.

Virgel and Arly moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1986 until 1999. Virgel passed away Sept. 15, 1999. Arly then moved back to Decorah.

Arly is survived by three children: Keith (Nancy) Rosendahl, Brian (Billie) Rosendahl and Donna (Norm) Zimmerman; four grandchildren, Heidi Zimmerman, Joni (Scott McDermott) Zimmerman, Derek Rosendahl and Blake (Mina) Rosendahl; three great-grandchildren, Aoife Violet Lawler-Zimmerman, Astrid Rose Lawler-Zimmerman and Alaina Rosendahl; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Peterson and Audrey Brickner.

Arly was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gina Doerr, her husband, Virgel Rosendahl; her sister, Dorisgene (Doerr) Winger ‘45; her brothers-in-law, Lloyd Winger ‘38, and David Brickner; and her mother-in-law, Violet Rosendahl.

Memorials may be given to the charity of donor’s choice.
