Ruth I. (Onkka) Hinderaker, age 70, of Zumbrota passed away on Fri., Dec. 20, 2019, at her home in Zumbrota. A memorial service was held Thurs., Dec. 26, 2019, at the United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West 3rd Street, Zumbrota with Pastor Nicole Rockne officiating.

Ruth Ingrid Onkka was born on May 13, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn., to Robert and Dolores (Johnson) Onkka. Ruth grew up in parsonages in Southwest Minn., and Wis. She graduated from Valders High School in Valders, Wis., in 1967. Ruth attended and graduated from Luther College in 1971 with a B.A. in Political Science. On Feb. 3, 1973, she married Dale B. Hinderaker. They lived in Northfield before moving to Zumbrota in 1985. Ruth taught piano and organ lessons for forty three years and retired in Jan. of 2019.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Dale; son, Abe Hinderaker of Corvalis, Mont.; daughter, Betsy Hinderaker Paradise ‘99 (Mike) of Richfield, Minn.; grandchildren, Ahren, Mya and Marley Hinderaker and Leo Paradise; father, Robert Onkka of Rochester, Minn.; sister, Susan Onkka Willig ’67 (David Willig ’67) of Grinnell, Iowa, and brother, John Onkka ’70 (Mary) of Baldwin, Wis.

Ruth was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Johnson Onkka and granddaughter, Angene Paradise.

Memorials preferred to United Redeemer Lutheran Church or Zumbrota Area Food Shelf.

Arrangements were with the Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
