Charles Edward Edison of Chicago, died Nov. 25, 2019, age 73.

Psalm 1 describes Charles Edward Edison, he loved and trusted God. Towards the end of his life, Charles said, “I’m ready to meet my maker.” He wondered what God would call him when he reached heaven. On Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, Charles met his maker. God opened his arms and said, “Come on home my good and faithful servant.”

Charles was born in Newton, Miss., on Feb. 14, 1946, to the late Ben Edison and Myrtle Pruitt. He was thir fourth child and their second eldest son of the eight children.

In 1969 Charles earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He then went on to join the United States Navy. He retired from the United States Navy on Dec. 5, 1993. After retiring from the Navy, Charles taught in the suburban and Chicago Public School System.

Charles accepted Christ at an early age. Later on in life he joined South Loop Church in Chicago. He enjoyed reading stories to the children and teaching a Bible class.

Charles loved reading, jazz, and doing good things for his family, friends and community. He would always extend a hand to help others.

Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, James Edison and Benjamin Edison, and nephews Freddie Walker and Michael Bucknor. Charles leaves to cherish the memory of his life and legacy of love: his sisters Clara Clark, Vergie Grant, Peggy Edison, and Barbara Prestwood; his brother Jerry Edison; four nephews, Terry Walker, Craig Walker, Akua Prestwood, an Mansa (Toni) Prestwood; five nieces, Tandy Green, Myrna Grant, Nicole Grant, Naila (Oscar) Towne, Jabrina Bucknor and a host of great nephews and great nieces.
