Cynthia “Cindy” Jane (Hinz) Blauer of Wanamingo, Minn., passed away Jan. 25, 2020, surrounded by loving family after her battle with cancer. Cindy generously donated her body to the Anatomy Bequest Program at the University of Minnesota (612-625-1111) to advance the fight against cancer. Cindy requested that we get together as family and friends and celebrate her life. A celebration will take place at the Stone Hearth Inn in Decorah on April 18, 2020.

She was born Feb. 14, 1947, in Decorah, graduated Decorah High School and attended Luther College where she met the love of her life John Blauer ‘68, whom she wed in 1968. Cindy was a long-time teacher in Decorah and put Decorah swimming on the map. She touched many lives with her amazing positive attitude and her generous spirit. Those who knew Cindy well would tell you that she was quick-witted, always having fun and was the kindest soul in the room.

Cindy is survived by her children: Richard (Jessica) of Wannamingo, Minn.; Galen (Shannon) Crozier of Homestead; Jory (Mea) Blauer of Beach Park, Ill.; and Stephanie (Chris) Fitzgerald of Gurnee, Ill.; her mother, Barbara (Baker) Hinz ‘44, of Iowa City; and her sisters, Cathy Burg of Wickenberg, Ariz. and Jamie (Doug) Sherman, of Iowa City.

Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, John Blauer ‘68; and her father, Darwin “Sid” Hinz.
