Spring 2022 (May 20, 2022)

Peter Henry Lisius, age 46, of Stowe, Ohio, passed away on April 5, 2022. He is survived by: parents, Carl and Charlotte Lisius of Oak Forest, Ill.; brother, Philip, and his sister-in-law, Jill, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and nephews, Derek, Brenden and Caleb Lisius.

Peter was born on Oct. 17, 1975, and received the blessings of Christian Baptism one month later.

He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tinley Park, Ill., and chose Romans 8:28 as his confirmation verse: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Peter enjoyed learning, music and travel. He was a great conversationalist and a supportive friend. He loved to write and enjoyed playing piano and trumpet. Peter attended Trinity Lutheran School in Tinley Park, Ill., and Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Ill. He graduated cum laude from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, with a double major in Music and History. At Luther College he was selected as solo trumpeter, playing “The Trumpet Shall Sound” for Luther’s annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah.” He also experienced a summer internship at the Smithsonian History Museum in Washington, D.C. Peter then completed a Master’s Degree in Library Science at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., with a specialization in Music Cataloging.

Peter’s first professional position was as a music cataloguer at the New York Public Library. He took advantage of the many cultural and historic opportunities in the New York metropolitan area. He joined a semi-professional choir which went to Rome, Italy and sang before the Pope.

Peter moved to Stow, Ohio, and took a position as a music and media cataloguer at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. He received a Master’s Degree in Music Theory at Kent and was eventually granted full tenure as a Kent professor. Living near the Cuyahoga Valley National Park stimulated his interest in wildlife and nature. He loved his home in Ohio, made many friends at Kent State, and developed close relationships with friends at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Ohio, sometime in the summer. His cremains will be distributed in the church’s memorial garden. The Lord saw fit to take Peter to his heavenly home where he is at peace. He will be missed by his loving family and all of his friends both near and far.
