Jeffrey Oliver Gunderson, age 58, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of rural New Hampton, Iowa, passed away on Nov. 10, 2021, at St. Luke’s Transitional Care in Cedar Rapids.

A funeral service was held Nov.17, 2021, at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pastor Sue Cira officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, Minn.

Visitation was Nov. 16, 2021, at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and continued one hour prior to the funeral service at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Jeffrey Oliver was born April 27, 1963, in Rochester, Minn., the son of Oliver and Carole Ann (Welch) Gunderson. As a young child, Jeffrey’s family moved to rural New Hampton where he attended and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1981. While in high school, Jeffrey was a nine-year member of the Williamstown Junior Farmers and served as President of the Fredericksburg FFA Chapter and was a member of the high school band. After graduating, Jeffrey attended Luther College for his degree in English and graduated in 1985. He then transitioned from writing to software development and ultimately senior system engineering working for Collins Aerospace for 16 years.

Jeffrey had a passion for reading, music, movies and gaming.

Those left to honor Jeffrey’s memory are his father and stepmother, Oliver and Leigh Gunderson of Elma, Iowa; a stepsister, Rachel Boyle (Heather) of Houston; several aunts, uncles and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carole Ann Gunderson and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
