Bruce Forde, 1966

Bruce Forde, 78, of Decorah, Iowa, died Nov. 15, 2021, in the comfort of his home. He was born Oct. 9, 1943, in Decorah, the son of Walter and Gladys (Hulquist), both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Lowell.

He grew up in Decorah and graduated from Luther College in 1966 and earned a Master of Science from Winona State University in 1975. He married Cam (Leseth) Forde ‘68 on Aug. 5, 1967, and she survives. He is also survived by his son Chris of Robinson, Ill. as well as his brother Wilbur and Judy of Sherwood, Ark., a sister-in-law Suzanne, and his sister-in-law Adrienne (Leseth) Coffeen ‘71 and Paul Coffeen of Decorah along with numerous cousins.

He started his career as a history teacher and coach in Houston, Minn., before moving to Caledonia, Minn., where he also taught. He took over the family business, Peter Johnson & Sons in Decorah, and then worked as a sales representative in a multi-state area for Lomanco before retiring. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for several years in Decorah.

Bruce and Cam were bitten by the travel bug early in their marriage and they traveled around the country in an RV. He was a history buff and loved visiting historic homes and sites. One of his favorite places to visit was Yellowstone National Park. He also loved collecting antiques, fishing, and grilling. Bruce was a movie buff and loved cats. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

He was cremated and will be buried Phelps Cemetery. Private family services were held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa or the Decorah High School Class of ’62 Scholarship Fund.
