New Friends and New Foods

Today we ended our short stay in Nagasaki and traveled to Hiroshima to stay at a youth hostel for the night. Some of us stayed in more traditional Japanese rooms with low tables where you get to sit on the floor.

After moving in, we spent the night with some students from the Hiroshima City University. We played an ice breaker game where we had to solve simple math problems like 2+5, but the difficult part was we had to say the correct answer and show the correct answer with our fingers. An additional challenge was that we had to use both hands regardless of how low the answer was. So if the answer was 'three', we had to have two fingers on one hand and one finger on the other.

Shortly after we all went to dinner together and they introduced us to many new Japanese foods that we probably wouldn't have tried on our own. Some were good and others we quickly learned we didn't like. The students gave us lessons in using chopsticks and speaking Japanese. All in all, today was a nice break from traveling and we had a lot of fun interacting with the students from the local university.
