Snorkeling in Roatan!

When we were told we had a free afternoon, my group had the opportunity to attempt scuba diving again. Our first attempt at scuba diving did not end well for most of us. The weather that day was not permitting and we ended up getting pummeled by waves and two of us ended up getting motion sickness and throwing up over the boat, me being one of them… So when it was the day to make up for that terrible diving weather, I decided that snorkeling was a better option after being slightly traumatized. So a small group of us went on the same boat as the three brave souls that decided to go through with the scuba diving.

When I jumped into the water I almost regretted my decision due to the cold water and the saltwater I ended up inhaling, but I was not giving up. Once you were in the water long enough, it eventually warmed up. We started swimming and I was pretty nervous that my snorkel wasn't going to be long enough and I was just going to breathe in water but it turns out you don't get much water in your snorkel. Well until some waves come and splash some water into it. The first time that happened I became slightly concerned because you breathe in some salt and then the snorkel makes a weird gurgling/Darth Vader noise and it sounds like your next breath will be your last.

Once you get used to the Darth Vader breathing and salty taste, you can finally take in the true beauty of the ocean floor beneath you, and you never want to come back up. I cannot think of anything more peaceful than swimming with the fish and along with the different corals and I think the best thing we saw was a giant sea turtle. I could have watched this turtle swim for days, I was almost hypnotized. Overall, even with the traumatizing scuba diving incident, I would recommend snorkeling or scuba diving here in Roatan!
