Language and Culture in Oaxaca

I’m really excited to be able to share this experience with you all. I am a sophomore at Luther this year studying English and Spanish. I love live theatre, art, dogs, reading, and obviously ESPAÑOL! We will be spending the month of January in the beautiful Oaxaca México, studying language, culture, and getting to know the area and its people.  We will be staying with host families, learning about the rich culture of Oaxaca, traveling and exploring the city, as well as taking classes at the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca. I think I speak for myself as well as my fellow classmates when I say that we are all hoping to improve our Spanish, get to know the city and our new host families and enjoy the nice break from a midwestern January. We have some exciting weekend outings planned as well, including a trip to Sierra Norte, so stay tuned to hear more about our trip!

This trip is unique because we will be staying in the same time zone (yay for no jet lag!) and we get the chance to live in a city full of culture, art and history. I am personally looking forward to getting to see all of Oaxaca’s beautiful biodiversity, as it is one of the most biodiverse regions in México. Over the course of our trip you will get to hear from each of our students and their unique perspectives and experiences, and I will be in charge of making sure you get those quality posts from my classmates.

We are so excited for this amazing opportunity!

Hasta luego,  Emma
