Library Services Meeting: March 27, 2013

Library Metrics
Reviewed library metrics for Research Help interactions, instruction, and database use. Also reviewed data submitted to the NCES Academic Libraries Survey. Conversation focused on trends concerning use of Research Help during the Paideia Research Unit, specifically a 7-10 day period at the beginning of the unit where Research Help traffic increases substantially.

WorldCat Local
Demonstration of search capability currently available in WorldCat Local. Specifically the group discussed the ability to search for and access information on the article level from within WorldCat and how that would affect library instruction next year when we are live with WMS.

March Madness
Update on current progress of the March Book Madness competition. Discussed participation numbers (average of 36 people in the rounds of voting thus far) and also ideas for how to improve activity for next year in terms of campus partnerships, more standard voting periods, bracket contest and corresponding prizes. Round 4 of voting ends on Saturday, March 30th at Midnight. The link to the Google Form can be found on the LIS Blog or Preus Library Facebook page.

LibTech Conference
Jennifer gave a quick update on topics of interest from last week’s LibTech Conference at Macalaster. This includes an iPad app to facilitate browsing of academic journals, the creation of an e-reader bar, academic library website design, use of Pinterest in academic libraries, and an iPad learning community being piloted at St. Olaf. More detailed information will be presented on the blog and at upcoming meetings.

ACM Digital Repository Survey
Paul informed the group of digital repository conversations that had taken place at the recent ACM meeting in Chicago. Rachel, Paul, and Ryan will follow up to discuss the creation of a survey to be used to survey resources and needs of ACM schools in this regard as part of a collaborative effort moving forward.
