1936 Luther College Concert Band Tour Documentary to Premiere

The Luther College Archives will host the premiere of a new documentary telling the story of the Luther College Concert Band tour to Europe in 1936 on Friday, November 22nd.

The documentary includes the story of Willard Linnevold, Class of 1937, who was a member of the band. The 1936 band tour was organized under the direction of Carlo Sperati and marked the second time the band had undertaken an international tour. The tour lasted 90 days with concerts held in US venues; throughout Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France and England; as well as on the ship they used to travel to and from the European continent.

The documentary is a joint project between the Luther College Archives and Luther alum, Barb Nasby, '74 with the assistance of Archives Assistant Siphamandla Simelane, '14. Additional support was provided by the Office of the President and technical assistance from Mick Layden, '04.

The premiere will take place on Friday, November 22nd at 7 pm in Valders 206. A reception with light refreshments will follow.
