President and Dean Announce Restructuring of Library and Information Services (LIS)

Today President Carlson and Dean Kraus announced their decision to restructure LIS. Effective March 1, all the librarians, the College Archivist, and library staff members will report through the Dean. Kevin will be selecting a Head Librarian who will lead library operations and be LIST Department Head. In the interim, staff librarians, the College Archivist, and the Circulation team will report to Ryan Gjerde as Head of Library Operations and Lindy Moeller will continue as LIST Department Head.

The reporting structure for the rest of the library team remains the same. The remaining LIS departments will become Information Technology Services (ITS), led by Paul Mattson. This includes User Services (minus Circulation), Software Development, and Network and Systems. ITS will report to the President and maintain strong relationships with the Dean and VP for Finance and Administration.

The President and the Dean anticipate ongoing collaboration between Library and ITS on behalf of faculty, students and staff. In the coming weeks, Library and ITS will work through the details of the new structure. Cost management and collaboration will be important focus areas for ITS. Paul will also assume some teaching responsibilities in the Computer Science Department starting in the fall.
