On Monday, August 1, the Library will be launching Worldcat Discovery to replace the existing Worldcat Local online catalog and search tool. Here’s what you need to know.
Worldcat Discovery offers a new and improved interface, including:
- More intuitive and robust search options, including filtered searching and a “Did you mean?” feature
- Responsive design that works across a variety of devices
- Updated interface
All the same content will be available:
- Worldcat Discovery will continue to provide access to the Preus Library holdings and the collections of thousands of libraries worldwide
Worldcat Discovery Lists will not be public:
- Lists will be private and only for personal use
- You can import lists from Worldcat Local into Worldcat Discovery
You can preview the new search interface:
- Test out the new interface here
- Tutorials for how to use the new interface are available here
Worldcat Local will still be available:
- The main search box will direct users to Worldcat Discovery, but Worldcat Local is still available here
- Your user accounts, including your lists, will still be available through Worldcat Local
- There are no current plans to end Worldcat Local
Update your bookmarks:
- If you have bookmarks to item records in Worldcat Local, you should update them to the new Worldcat Discovery URLs
- The Library homepage will not change: luther.edu/library
We’re looking forward to the improved search and interface features! Please report any issues, concerns, suggestions, and compliments to Freeda Brook [email protected] or any of the library staff.
