Kathryn (Groth) Peterson, 1956

KATHRYN (GROTH) PETERSON of Rockford, Ill., died July 18, 2011, at age 76, in P.A. Peterson Center for Health. She was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Adolph and Carrie Groth. Graduate of Luther College, Class of 1956 with a French horn scholarship. She married Kenneth C. Peterson on Aug. 6, 1960, in Rockford; he died June 7, 2011. Kathryn was a fourth-grade teacher at St. Patrick and St. Edward Schools, retiring after 30 years. Member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the church council and served as president in 2007. Her passion was gardening, which led her to founding the Zion Neighborhood Gardens in 2009. Kathryn's motto was service to others, Zion Church and gardening. Survived by children, Kari Taylor of Sycamore and Lawrence (Debbie) Peterson of Stoughton, Wis.; and grandchildren, Emily, Cole and Ava Peterson, and Grace, Gillian and Gianna Taylor. Kathryn is the sister of GAYLORD GROTH ’60. Services were held July 23, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
