Lizabeth Wing, 1969

LIZABETH WING, 64, beloved daughter of Lucy Wing and the late Hugh Wing, favorite niece of Isabel Weaver and Everett Johnson, cherished sister of Kathryn, Timothy and Marcus Wing, loving, acerbic, witty and whimsical aunt of Freya and Mike, Chris and Jenny and unencumbered, outrageously fun gr-aunt of KT, Miya and Topher, …waited until it was time to “feed the cat” then passed away on August 9, 2012, at her family home in Richville, Minn. She was born in Fargo and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1965. She went on to study music education at Luther College, and later received advanced degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her legacy to music education is traced through her publications, her professional service and particularly, her dedication to students. She had recently retired as Division Head of Music Education at the College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, where she had taught for 25 years. She received the Distinguished Service Award from Luther in 1999, and the Carlo A. Sperati Award in 2009. She was a member of President’s Council at Luther. Liz was an avid photographer, cat lover and treasured friend. Fergus Falls and the surrounding area remained her summer home throughout her life. Liz loved and celebrated life — threw parties full of laughter, dance, good food & drink (esp… Maker’s Mark) and made people feel valued. Celebrate today like there’s no tomorrow! “Why can’t we get all the people together in the world that we really like and just stay together? I guess that wouldn’t work, someone would leave. Then we would have to say good-bye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos.” — Charles Schultz Family and friends will organize a celebration of her life at a later time. Condolences may be sent online at www.olsonfuneralhome.com A memorial video created by her students and colleagues at the University of Cincinnati can be viewed here: http://www.uc.edu/ucit/digitalvideo/liz_wing.html
