CARL JOHNSON, 69, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 10th at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Craig Zandi officiating. Burial was in the Lake City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Lake City American Legion Post #31 and V.F.W. Post #1899. Carl is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Lake City, sons Chris (Liz) Johnson of Des Moines and Cyle Johnson of Omaha, Neb., daughter, Cara Johnson (Ryan) Hannam of Waukee, and grandsons, Quentin and Eli Straw of Waukee. Also surviving is his mother, Maxyne Johnson, of Lake City, sister, Carol (Bob) Dickkut of Lake City, niece, Brooke (Leon) Johnson of Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews from Tennessee. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Bud Johnson, nephew, Chad Dickkut, mother-in-law, Margaret Morris, and father-in-law, Edward Morris. Carl Edward Johnson was born on February 13, 1943 in Omaha, Neb., to Harold “Bud” and Maxyne (Clark) Johnson. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1961 and from Luther College with a business degree in 1965. Carl served as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On October 26, 1968, Carl was united in marriage to Carolyn Morris at Ashland City, Tenn. Carl was a manager of Calhoun Mutual Insurance and owner of Johnson Insurance Agency in Lake City and was very active in his community throughout the years. He served the community as Fire Department Chief for 25 years, Legion Commander, Opportunity Living Board President, Kiwanis President, Little League Coach, and Booster Club President. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City, serving as Elder and President of the Congregation. He also taught Adult Bible Class, Confirmation, and Catechism Classes. Carl was especially active and supportive of his children and grandchildren in their activities and was an avid golfer and reader.
