Ronald Jerrold Seaver, 1954

RONALD JERROLD SEAVER, age 79, of Chelsea Woods, Plymouth, Minn., died unexpectedly in his home Sept. 9th, 2012. He was born on Nov. 4th, 1932, the son of Jerrold and Emma (McMullen) Seaver. Ron was born and raised on the family farm near Capron, Ill., where he attended a one-room country school for eight years without a classmate. In 1950 he graduated from Capron High School and then attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, where he received a degree in elementary education in 1954. After graduation he spent two years in the Army, mainly in Okinawa. Following his discharge he taught school for four years in Elgin, Ill., and then moved to Minneapolis, and took summer courses at the University of Minnesota. He worked for Donaldson's Department Store as a buyer for their Minneapolis and Southdale stores. Because teaching held his major interest, he accepted a job teaching in the elementary schools of the Edina, Minnesota, school district and later received his M.A. in counseling from the St. Cloud State College in Minnesota. Ron had many interests beyond his teaching: active with the Nordic Players of the Lutheran Drama Association, traveled to many countries outside of the U.S.A., attended Gopher and Viking football, Twins baseball, played tennis, avid bridge player, played piano for hymn sings with his friends, held season tickets for Orchestra Hall and the Guthrie Theatre. Ron shared his home with his college roommate, BRAD AAMODT ‘59, and family and friends were always welcomed (served great meals!) He was a member of The Legacy Trust and President’s Council at Luther College. The Ronald Seaver Music Scholarship was established at Luther in 2011. Ron is survived by his sister, Roma Thompson (Tenner) of Alexandria, Minn; brother, ROBERT SEAVER ‘57 of Huntley, Ill.; sister, DOROTHY (SEAVER) GILDSETH ‘58 (Richard Gildseth) of Wittenberg, Wis.; and nephews and nieces, Tenner III, Kimberly, Mark, John, Erik, Tom, David, Brian, Kent, Kirk, and Kristina and their families and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Jerrold and Emma Seaver and friend, BRAD AAMODT ‘59. Visitation was held Sept. 21, 2012, at the Washburn- McReavy Funeral Home, 5000 West 50th and Highway 100, Edina, Minn. Burial was at the Long Prairie Cemetery in Capron, Ill., conducted by Saunders and McFarlin Funeral Home. Published in Star Tribune from September 13 to September 16, 2012.
