Rev. Dale W. Skatrud, 1953

REV. DALE W. SKATRUD, age 82 of Edina, Minn., passed away peacefully on October 9, 2012, after a long and valiant struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Born May 11, 1930, in Manitowoc, Wis., to Orrin and Mildred Skatrud, the second of five boys. He graduated from Valders High School, Luther College, and Luther Seminary with a master’s degree in divinity. He served as an ALC and ELCA parish pastor in Harlowton and Libby, Mont., and Casper, Wyo. While serving as parish pastor, he was elected to the governing board of the Division for Service and Mission in America, the American missions board of the ALC. He also served on the Board of Regents of Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D. Later, until retirement, he served on the regional staff for the ELCA in its programs within the USA for starting new congregations and other ministries, including with Native American communities and prison congregations. During many years of his retirement he enjoyed spending the winter in Jackson, Wyo., skiing with his wife, Elaine, and entertaining family and friends from around the country. Preceded in death by his brother, RALPH SKATRUD ’51, survived by his loving wife, Elaine; brothers: ROGER SKATRUD ’57, KEITH SKATRUD ’66, and PAUL SKATRUD ’74; children: David, Mary (Frank Mello), Kari (Matt McCreedy), and John; and six grandchildren: Ryan and Danielle Mello, Meghan and William McCreedy, and Tanner and Cody Skatrud. A memorial service was held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 France Ave. South, Bloomington, Minn., October 12, 2012, with burial in Valders, Wis., on October 13. Memorials could be made to ELCA World Hunger, Luther Theological Seminary, or donor’s choice.
