Kristine Mae (Bjerva) Leix, 1971

Kristine (Kris) Mae Leix died February 19, 2013, at age 64 after a 2½ year battle with cancer. She was a member of the Delta Alpha Delta sorority. She taught English and Art for 36 years at Mabel, Minn.; Plainfield and Butler, Ind.; Davenport, Iowa, and Machesney Park, Ill., where she taught for the last 20 years until her retirement in 2011. She also coached volleyball, track, and youth baseball. She earned a master’s degree in English from National Louis University. Kris returned to Luther from 1979 to 1984 serving as head resident on Miller Hall and as a study skills supervisor while her husband, JIM LEIX ’72, served as Luther’s head basketball coach. She loved boating, painting, reading, playing games with family and spending time with family. She always put everyone first before herself as a caregiver who loved a good laugh.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Jason (Nirvana) with grandchildren Andrew, 6, Alex, 3 and Isabella, 1; son, Aaron (Brianne) with grandchildren Colton, 4 and Hayden, 1; siblings, Charta Lockwood, Dan (Rose) Lockwood, Kim (Dorothy) Lockwood, Mark Lockwood, Randi Fleck, Alan (Patricia) Lockwood, Mary (Doug) Insko, and John Lockwood. Predeceased by her beloved dalmation, Jerry. Kris was a soulmate, friend, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother.

Funeral service was held February 23, 2013 in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe. Memorials to the family for a fund to be established.
