Ronnald William Farland. Surrounded by family, Ronn passed away peacefully in Sacramento April 15, 2013 at age 73. A Sacramento resident for 32 years, he spent the last 6 years in Moorpark, Calif. Born December 8, 1939 in Newton, Iowa, Ronn graduated from Newton High School, Luther College, the University of Chicago and UC Berkeley, where he earned his Doctorate degree.

He spent his early career as Director of Admissions at Luther College, spearheading the racial integration of the student body. His lifetime commitment to education continued in educational research at St. Olaf, UMASS, and the Education & Training Institute, eventually bringing him to the California Community College Chancellor's Office; where he worked 25 years before retiring in 2001.

Ronn's passion for learning and travel took him throughout the world, visiting 48 of the 50 states and 14 European countries. He cared deeply about society's underprivileged and spent much of his adult life volunteering to help the homeless, as well as opening his home to friends in need.

Ronn leaves behind his loving partner, Jose Aceves, son Christian Farland, daughter-in-law Stephanie Farland, and his beloved granddaughter, Ysabela Farland, the apple of his eye. A memorial service celebrating Ronn's life was held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1701 L Street, Sacramento, on April 26, 2013.

Ronn was a member of Heritage Club and President’s Council at Luther College and received the Distinguished Service Award from Luther in 1997.
