Alice B. Skaar, 1953

Alice B. Skaar, the daughter of Chester and Christina (Meling) Skaar, was born on May 23, 1923, in Palo Alto County, Iowa. She attended Primghar Schools and graduated from Primghar High School in 1942. She attended Waldorf College for two years and then graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1953. She then began working in Accounts Receivable for Augsburg Publishing in Minneapolis, until her retirement in 1990. After her retirement she moved back to Primghar, Iowa, to live with her brother, Harold, and sister, Bernette.  She passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa reaching the age of 89 years, 3 months and 3 days.

Alice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar, where she was very active. She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, quilting, fishing and traveling; especially to Israel, China and Norway. Alice was known for her Kringla.   

Left to cherish her memory are two brothers, Donald SKAAR ’49, and his wife, Elaine Skaar of North Oaks, Minnesota and Harold SKAAR ‘53of Primghar, Iowa; brother-in-law, Harlan Baustian of North Platte, Nebraska; six nieces and nephews, Eric Skaar, Sara Skaar, Rebecca Garey, David Baustian, Paul Baustian and Melia Baustian; four great nieces and nephews; three great-great nieces and nephew; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Arlet Baustian and Bernette Skaar; and one brother, Arnold Skaar in infancy.
