Donald Rosholt, 1948

Funeral services for Donald Rosholt of Cyrus, Minn., were held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church near Starbuck with Reverend Martha Hanson officiating. Visitation was held Monday the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial was Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Donald died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia, Minn., having lived to reach the age of 87 years.

Donald was born March 15, 1926 to Herman ROSHOLT ’13, and Olga (Hage) Rosholt in Minneapolis. In 1938, his family moved to a farm near Cyrus, Minn., where he lived until entering the United States Navy V-5 officers training program in 1944.

Don met his wife, Rosalie (Otters) ROSHOLT ‘49, at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1946. They were married in 1948, the same year Don graduated with a major in mathematics and a minor in physics. His first teaching jobs were in Canton and St. Paul Park, Minn.

In 1955, the family moved to Bloomington, Minn., and Don began working for the Minneapolis Public Schools. He received a Master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1956. While in Minneapolis, he was a secondary teacher, counselor and assistant principal. After retiring from education in 1981, Don and Rosalie moved to the Rosholt family farm near Cyrus and began a second career in farming.

As a man of great faith and patriotism, Don was active in church and community affairs in both Bloomington and Cyrus. Don enjoyed being outdoors and led his family on many camping and hiking adventures. He was an avid woodworker and builder, and he and Rosalie built their home in Cyrus.

He is survived by two sons: David Rosholt ’76, of Richfield and John Rosholt ’79 (Michelle) of Montrose; two daughters: Donnis (ROSHOLT) Tolle ’73 (Steven) of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Linda (ROSHOLT) HASH ‘85 (Lee Hash ’84) of Appleton, Wis.; daughter-in-law: Debra (Steinhorst) Rosholt ‘74 of Reedsburg, Wis.; one brother: Robert Rosholt ‘51 (Lucille) of Decorah, Iowa; one sister: Jeanette Veum of Starbuck; 12 grandchildren, including ERIK ROSHOLT ’00, JACOB ROSHOLT ’09, JOSEPH ROSHOLT ’11, and KIRSTEN HASH ’13, and six great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Paul ROSHOLT ‘74, and granddaughter, Molly Rosholt. Donald was the grandson of TOLLEF ROSHOLT (LC Class of 1868)

Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Starbuck, Minn., ReClaim Resources, St. Paul, Minn., and Luther College, Decorah, Iowa.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris was in charge of the arrangements.
