Class of 2013 Spring 2018 Letter

Spring 2018

Dear Classmate,

I called a close friend from Luther to catch up last week. Once housemates, my friend and I are now separated by a three-hour drive on I-35 from Des Moines to St. Paul. Despite the distance, our conversations include reminders about how each other’s strengths can benefit our most passionate causes.

When we’re not talking vocation, we’re talking beer and food and biking. We both show some serious love for Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. and Toppling Goliath beer. We both love eating at Mabe’s, the Oneota Community Food Co-op, or Koreana. Taking a leisurely pedal around the Trout Run Trail continues to be a favorite.

Shouldn’t everyone get to experience these things!?

Refer Decorah (and Luther!) to someone else. You can recruit new students to Luther through the Alumni Ambassador program. Every student you refer will receive a $1,000 scholarship each year, for four years, should they enroll at Luther. Just contact Alyssa Ritter, asst. dir. of admissions, at 563-387-1438.

I love the idea of paying the Luther experience forward – not only by inviting young scholars to join the community in conversation – but by giving financially to Luther. That’s why I’m a member of Luther’s Loyalty Society, which recognizes donors who have made gifts at any level for three or more consecutive years.

Will you consider joining me in making a gift this year? Support from graduates like us is the foundation in helping tomorrow’s Luther students step out of their comfort zones to live, lead, and work with purpose. Need evidence? Check out the recent alumni magazine to learn about the transformations and discoveries of current students and alumni. Use the attached form and the reusable envelope or visit givenow.luther.edu to donate today!

Every time I talk to my Luther friend in St. Paul, I’m reminded of how our shared Luther experiences created a platform for the continued exchange of ideas and sustained confidence in each other. Luther friends like these continue to help me live my best life, carry out meaningful work, and connect in purposeful ways. Thank you, thank you, Luther!

All the best,

Clara Bergan
