Library Services Minutes, June 27. 2012

Present: Jennifer R, John, Paul, Rachel, Ryan, Sasha

  • Review of June 20 meeting items – History Day: Rachel reported that at the recent Consortium of Iowa Archivists meeting there was some interest expressed for developing a state-wide strategy for outreach. One example of such a program is the work done in Ohio to compile information on the repositories in the state, and what types of information is included. Other questions on how we can leverage our resources was discussion. It was suggested that the library form a small group to work with the History department on scheduling and program details.
  • Operational Reporting – the group continues to work with the brainstorming Google Doc. The Library team’s first report to LIS Council will be July 11.
  • Journal Request – John presented a request for the “Journal of the Early Americas.” After discussion the group approved subscribing.
  • Choice Cards – John repeated his announcement that summer Choice cards are available for liaisons to look at, but by default won’t be distributed to departments until Fall.
  • Disaster Planning – Rachel announced a desire to augment the department’s emergency planning document to include plans for protecting, recovering, and providing access to materials threatened by a localized disaster.
  • Better World Books – Jennifer announced that the pilot is in progress.
