Announcements/Paging

Do NOT page people in the library using the library public address system. If someone calls and asks that we page for someone, the answer is “no,” even if they claim it is an “emergency.” Instead suggest the caller come over to look for the person themselves OR offer to go look for the person in the area where the caller believes they may be studying.

Paging disrupts the multitude of people studying in the library for, more times than not, trivial reasons. Plus, more times than not, the person being sought is not in the building anyway otherwise the person seeking them would have come over personally to find them.

Judgment can be exercised in making an exception; for example, if security calls and asks that someone be paged, or if a parent calls frantic to get hold of their son or daughter and they have been told the person is in the library.
