Photocopier/Scanner/OPAC Printer/Microfilm Printer

  • Two copiers/scanners are available for public use. Cost is $.10/side for copying and printing in black-and-white, $0.25/side for color copying and printing. Scanning is free.
  • Paper to replenish the 8” x 11” paper trays can be found behind the Technology Help Desk counter. The larger 11” x 17” paper can be found in the glass cases in the Technical Services area (use the key on the submaster paddle to open a door if all of them are closed and locked).
  • To copy, patrons may place originals in the document feeder on top or in the left-hand corner on the glass one-by-one. Money must be inserted to activate options such as double-sided printing, enlarging/reducing, darkening/lightening, multiple copies, etc.
  • If the copier won’t copy because it can’t determine the size of the object (such as a driver’s license), have the patron place the blank side of a piece of paper behind what they are copying so that the machine thinks it is copying a regular-sized piece of paper.
  • Follow directions on the screen to clear paper jams.
  • To scan, patrons need to select the scanner button to the left of the screen, touch “Manual Entry,” type in their email address, press OK, then “copy” using either the document feeder or the glass. If they use the glass, they are given 60 seconds to place the next page on the glass before the scan job is automatically sent to their email address or, when they are done scanning, they can press the “#” key to send the scan to their email immediately.
  • To scan in color, touch “Scan Settings” and change settings from black-and-white text default to the preferred color setting (for example, “Full color: Text/Photo”); to change the file type from pdf to jpeg or tiff, touch “File type” and change the setting to the preferred file type.
  • Print jobs from the library’s 10 public-access terminals (OPACs) and the newest microfilm reader and its scanner accessory are sent to the copier closest to the DVDs. From the printer screen, patrons touch “Print Jobs,” then select their job from the resulting listing. The number for each OPAC is taped above the screen of the terminal if the patron is unsure which print job is theirs. Money must be inserted before printing can occur.
  • Students, faculty, and staff can print in color by logging into one of the Windows (not Mac) machines in the library computer lab on the main floor and selecting the "Library 2nd Color Copier by DVDs - Requires cash" printer from the drop-down arrow (the default is the double-sided black-and-white printer). The print job does NOT go through PaperCut, but rather shows up immediately in the queue at the color copier (next to the New DVD Shelf). Cost is $0.25/page or side.
  • Although the OPACs (public terminals) and digital microfilm machine print to the same color copier, print jobs from these machines are only available in black-and-white. There is no option for printing in color from these devices. Black-and-white jobs are $0.10/page or side.
  • The money machines can handle coins up to a $1 (but not pennies) and paper bills up to a $5 bill.
  • Bypass keys for the copiers and microfilm reader/printers are available for use by faculty and student assistants when copies are to be charged to a college department. Have the faculty member or assistant fill out a gray charge card after making copies. The keys can be found in the bottom right drawers in the middle of the circulation counter. Place the gray cards at the front of the appropriate drawer after it is filled out.
