Internships

Luther grants academic credit for health-career internships (Biology 380B). Most internship experiences are arranged during January Term. Internships are primarily observational, but they provide a very practical introduction to the medical profession.

Research Opportunities

Many students choose to do a research experience with faculty members. Directed research can be done during the semester for academic credit, or during the summer at Luther or other institutions. Read about a recent collaborative research project.

Other Professional Experience

Although shadowing is not formalized and does not receive academic credit, it’s an excellent way to become familiar with various aspects of many health-related careers.

Service Activities

Our pre-health students are also committed to service through work with on-campus volunteer groups such as Students Helping Our Community (SHOC), Alpha Phi Omega,  PALS (Luther’s buddy program), GrandPALS, and in the community at the Decorah Free Clinic. Students can also choose to be a part of the Health Sciences Club. The group helps guide and inform students throughout their healthcare career selection process, using professional panels and workshops on the application processes.
