Frank Warren, Luther Distinguished Lecturer—and founder & curator of the PostSecret Project speaks in the CFL on Tuesday, September 25 at 7 pm. Warren’s lecture, “The Most Trusted Stranger in America”, discusses the power of secrets and his project PostSecret. Book signing to follow in the CFL lobby.  Although this event is free, everyone needs a ticket.  Get yours at the CFL Box Office now!

OFF-CAMPUS STUDIES FAIR: Wednesday, September 19, 10 am-2 pm, Union lobby.  Come visit with Luther faculty, students, and Center for Global Learning staff about J-term, summer, semester and year-long programs.  Representatives from ACM, API, Chicago Center, CIS, IES, IFSA-Butler, ISA, SIT, Arcadia University, and Spanish Studies Abroad will be on campus with information about the many opportunities for off-campus study available to Luther students!

Eddie Daniels, South African anti-apartheid activist and political prisoner with Nelson Mandela on Robben Island, will give public lectures Wednesday, September 26 in Valders 206 at 12:15 pm and 7:00 pm. Come hear from a leader who was on the front line of fighting for the new South Africa!

ACM Off-Campus Studies rep, Hannah Whitehead, will be on campus on Thursday, September 20.  Stop by her table outside of Marty's from 11:00 am-1 pm or her info session 2:30-3:30 pm in the Mott Room to visit about ACM programs in Botswana, Brazil, Chicago, Costa Rica, Florence, India, Japan, Jordan, London, Tennessee, Tanzania.  Questions? This week marks the 50th Anniversary of the United World Colleges! Join Luther's current 83 UWC graduates for chapel on Friday, 10:30-10:50 am and cultural activities on Saturday, 11 am-1 pm at Bentdahl Commons. The 12 international high schools share the goal of educating students from around the world to act as champions of peace, embracing the tensions and conflicts that exist within as well as between societies. 

Dr. Klammer's Grammar — Mondays 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Writing Center.  Meet with Professor Klammer to learn how to locate and correct grammar errors in your writing.  Walk-ins only, no appointments.  For help with writing content, please make an appointment with one of our writing tutors.  Go to the Katie homepage, click on the Writing Center icon on the right side, and "enroll" — that will take you to the appointment calendar.

Open House! The Sustainability House is having an open house during Family Weekend.  Stop by on Saturday, September 22 from 12:30 to 3:30 pm to meet house members and learn more about the house.  There will be refreshments provided.  The Sustainability House address is 629 Center Street.

SAC Special Events will be sponsoring Soda Shoppe on Saturday, September 22nd from 8:45-10:00 p.m. in Marty's. This event will feature Luther Jazz Band & Jazz Orchestra and novelty ice creams will be available. Free w/ CAF, $1 w/o.

The Book Shop will host a book signing session with author Douglas "Dag" Rossman for his book "Way of the Elves: A Nine World Saga" from 1-2 pm Saturday, September 22 in the Book Shop. "Way of the Elves: A Nine World Saga" is a Norwegian mythological tale that takes readers to Alfheim, the mysterious and magical place of the Nine Worlds.  The book is available for purchase in the Book Shop for $8.95. 

Students—To be certain you have all books needed for your classes, the Book Shop strongly encourages you to purchase all titles at the beginning of the semester. The Book Shop will begin to return textbooks to the publishers one month after classes begin.

Luther College will present two concerts on Saturday, September 22 in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall as part of the college's Family Weekend.  The Luther College Concert Band will perform at 12:30 pm and seven ensembles will perform at 7 pm. Both concerts are open to the public with no charge for admission.

The Book Shop and students from Associate Professor Barb Bohach's education class will host a storybook reading on Family Weekend, from 10:30-11:30 am, Saturday, September 22 in the lobby area of Union.The students, dressed as their favorite storybook characters, will read selections from various children's books. This event is open to the public with no charge for admission. Refreshments will be served.

LIS TIP OF THE WEEK—Check out a bike at the library! Thanks to the Luther College Wellness and Sustainability programs, eight bikes are  available for check out any time the library is open. freedom of information. Interested? Professor Mark Johns will be
available in Campus House (1st floor) on Thursday, September 20 from 1-4
p.m. Drop in as your schedule permits with questions or to learn more.

SAC Diversity Committee presents Adam Carroll giving the lecture "Building Your Online Brand" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 18 in Valders, Room 206. Carroll's lecture will give insight on how to align an online image consistent with the personality, integrity, and work ethic of the student. With employers now hiring firms to research online, maintaining an appropriate online brand is more important now than ever.

Family Weekend 2012 is scheduled for September 21-23. Please check the online schedule for event details. In the interest of conserving resources, a small supply of hard copies of the schedule will be printed for distribution to parents and family members on Saturday, September 22, 9:00 a.m.-noon, in the Dahl Centennial Union lobby. Interested in what goes on behind the scenes for the Center Stage Series? Ever wanted to volunteer to be a tech but didn't know how? Come find out at the PAC Ushering and Tech 101 Meeting on Tuesday, September 18th at 8:30 p.m. in the Qualley Lounge (CFL). This meeting will teach you everything you need to know! Plus, get a special behind the scenes tour of the CFL. You won't want to miss this!

"Like a turtle without a shell, or crow's feet," a collaborative dance performance, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 21 in Studio II of the Center for the Arts on the Luther College campus. The visual and performing arts department will present the AGA Collaborative performance followed by a discussion with the artists Amanda Hamp, Gretchen Alterowitz and Alison Bory. 

Odalis Valdivieso, artist and curator, will present "New Photography" 6 p.m. Thursday, September 20 in Room 203 of the Center for the Arts. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Valdivieso is an artist who questions conventional assumptions of the limitations of photography. Her recent works focus on the intersection of urban landscapes and abstract spatial relationships. Her current system isolates the photographic moment and the physical materiality of a photograph.
