Please email the Symphony Orchestra tour manager, Susan Potvin, or call at 563-387-1267 about available dates. We are booking now for travel in March 2022.
HOSTING THE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
(Some of the items below are negotiable. Contact Susan with questions.)
Space/equipment needs:
- Large performance space (48 x 35 ft)
- 3 large dressing rooms
- 1 or 2 private dressing rooms
- 1 large gathering space for pre-concert talk
- Grand piano, tuned the week of the concert
- Handheld microphone and stand for the conductor
- 60 stands, 75 chairs, podium and music stand
On-site volunteer needs:
- Volunteers to provide a pre-concert meal
- Volunteers to provide homestays
- Publicity helpers (hanging posters, promoting concert through community and church networks)
- 2-4 ushers for greeting concert goers and collecting donations and/or tickets
Housing:
- Homestays for 70-75 student musicians, usually in groups of 2-4; if a host can take a larger group, wonderful!
Homestay hosts provide:
- Post-concert snack
- Sleeping accommodations
- Breakfast
- Transportation from venue to their house, and back to the motorcoach the next morning
Meal:
- Concert host provides a pre-concert meal for 80 student musicians, leaders, and bus drivers. The tour manager can provide meal suggestions that are inexpensive, easy, and healthy.
Promotion:
- Hang posters about the concert in prominent places (Luther College will provide the posters).
- Promote concert on your organization's social media sites by sharing content created by Luther College.
- Let the tour manager know if there are any media organizations Luther should contact about articles and/or advertisements.
- Engage in word-of-mouth promotion. Get people excited!
Luther College provides:
- Concert promotion in high schools and churches within a 30-40 mile radius.
- Direct concert promotion to high school students interested in Luther and Luther College alumni and friends within a 30-mile radius.
- Help in finding area homestays and volunteers if needed.
- Social media marketing and promotion.
- Talented student musicians and an opportunity to bring your community together for a wonderful concert!
