Study Abroad

Russian majors are required to have a minimum of a semester of academic study (minimum of 12 credits) in a country where Russian is an official language. For minors, a language immersion experience is strongly recommended, but not required. Program selection must be approved by the department for all majors and minors prior to departure. All majors and minors are encouraged to help maintain and advance their language skills by completing courses in the language during their final semesters at Luther.

Luther students typically choose to study abroad through the auspices of the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR-ACCELS), which offers summer, semester and academic year programs in various locations in Russia. Please consult with the Director of Russian Studies as early as possible in your academic career to discuss options for study abroad and planning your undergraduate academic program. Read a blog post (March 2015) by Emily Markee '17 about her first week in Russia through the American Council - Russia Abroad program. Emily is a Russian Studies/Political Science double-major at Luther College.
