CIES Weekly Newsletter Feb. 6 - Feb. 12, 2022

Announcements

  • International students taxes. Please note that you cannot file your tax return until you receive your 1042-S. The college will provide this form to you in March. CIES does not conduct tax workshops, but we do provide the software (GTP) and information that will help you complete your tax return correctly. These are the federal tax instructions; however, remember it is not time to file yet since the 1042-S documents are not ready!  CIES will be sending out additional information and reminders about tax filing in March.
  • Passport Renewal Reminder! Please remember that one of the conditions of your F-1 status is that you maintain a valid passport. You should apply for a new one when the old one is at least 6 months.
  • Apply for a RAY Conservation or Clean Energy Fellowship by March 27th, 2022! Inspired by efforts to increase diversity in environmentally-related sectors, the Roger Arliner Young (RAY) Diversity Fellowship Program supports two cohorts of Fellows per year: RAY Conservation Fellows and RAY Clean Energy Fellows. The RAY Fellowship Program aims to increase and facilitate conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy-related career pathways for emerging leaders of color. The RAY Fellowship Program is a two-year paid fellowship designed to equip recent college graduates with the tools, experiences, support, and community they need to become leaders in the conservation and clean energy sectors—one that, in our visions of the future, fully represents, includes, and is led by the diverse communities, perspectives, and experiences of the United States.
  • Wellness and Sustainability have joined forces with AllMatters – the sustainability-focused personal care company – to offer free menstrual cups to interested students (for a limited period of time). This is part of CampusCup 2022 – a nationwide project to make periods on campus more sustainable. To get your free AllMatters menstrual cup, all you have to do is fill out this survey between February 14 - February 28 and pick it up when you are back on campus! You can also make other arrangements for pickup by emailing Jessica Rupp.
  • BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and multilingual mental health providers now available to you! Counseling Services is partnering with My SSP to offer online mental health and wellbeing support! Download the My SSP app to access: 24/7 real-time phone and chat support, multilingual support available, match with a professional counselor - you can request BIPOC or LGBTQ+ counselors, short-term phone and video support by appointment. You can access these services anytime, from anywhere in the world! For more information, click here.
  • Ready to change the world? Apply for the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship, a full scholarship to study abroad with a cohort of student leaders from around the country. The Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship was founded to empower students of color with a transformative experience abroad, much like Frederick Douglass was inspired by his travels. All program fees are covered, as well as airfare. Brielle Smith, a Fellow from 2021, summarizes the program in this 45 second video. We invite applications from 1st, 2nd or 3rd year students, with a GPA of 3.0 or above, from ethnic backgrounds typically underrepresented on study abroad programs. The application is online and due on February 14, Frederick Douglass’s birthday. As part of our commitment to expanding access to an international education, CIEE offers a $1500 Frederick Douglass Scholars Grant towards any in-person CIEE summer 2022, fall 2022 or spring 2023 program to all applicants who submit an application and meet all eligibility requirements but are not selected for the Fellowship. Additionally, Pell grant recipients can receive a $500 travel grant for airfare.
