K 

The Kaasa Family Scholarship, established by Herman '27 and Winifred Kaasa and others from the Kaasa family in honor of the family tradition that began with Edward Kaasa, class of 1892, followed by four sons: Erling '25, Herman '27, Olaf '31, and Rolf '33. Many descendants of these brothers have followed and the tradition continues. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Harris E. Kaasa Memorial Scholarship, established by Haldis (Solem) Kaasa '81 in memory of her husband, Harris '50, professor of religion at Luther from 1953-1955 and from 1961 until his death in 1983, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Scott I. and Ruth A. Kauls Scholarship, established by Scott '87 and Ruth (Berschet) Kauls '88, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The John and Karen Kerndt Family Scholarship, established by John '76 and Karen Kerndt, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Kilness Scholarship, established by Duane and Phyllis Nedrud in honor of Benny, Julius and Waldemar Kilness (all of who attended Luther), Alice Kilness, Emma Kilness Nedrud and Julia Kilness (all of whom were teachers), who were raised by parents who stressed higher education in the early 1900s. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified Christian students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Kintzinger Scholarship, established by Doug Kintzinger '82, regent emeritus, Rachel (Kintzinger) Harpham '90, and the Kintzinger family, shall be awarded to qualified students who exhibit academic excellence and leadership in high school with preference given to students from Grinnell, Iowa, or to students from towns where Doug and Rachel reside.

The C. Dean and Elsie L. Kittleson Family Scholarship, established by Dean '52 and Elsie (Nesset) Kittleson '51, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance with preference given to students who have served on staff at Camp EWALU, Strawberry Point, Iowa.

The Kenneth A. Klingsheim Memorial Scholarship, established in Kenneth's memory by Shirley (Klingsheim) Bentdahl '59 through the estate of their parents, Arthur and Amelia Klingsheim, shall be awarded to qualified students who are graduates of Fillmore Central High School, Harmony, Minnesota, or if there are none, to students from rural southeastern Minnesota.

The Helen and Hans Kneubuhler Scholarship, established by Helen (Legler) '59 and Hans Kneubuhler, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Mary (Macal) and Stephen Knutson Promise Scholarship, established by Stephen '81 and Mary (Macal) Knutson '83, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Knutson-Wurtzel Scholarship, established by Helen (Knutson) '57 and Norb Wurtzel '61, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Koch-Cannestra Family Scholarship, established by Lori (Koch) '82 and Paul Cannestra in honor of their parents, Richard and Marlene Koch and Frank and Rita Cannestra, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The U.V. and Paul Koren Scholarship, established by the members of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in recognition of their connection to Luther College as a founding congregation. To be awarded to students from the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church congregation, or, if none, then awards shall be made to students from Winneshiek County.

The Kraabel Family Scholarship, established by A. Thomas '56 and Janice Kraabel to honor Anton T. and Mary Kraabel. Between 1903 and 1918, A.T. Kraabel served the state of North Dakota as state representative, then senator, then lieutenant governor. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance with preference given first to students from North Dakota, and then to students who are in the first generation of their family to attend college.

The Krahn Family Student Life Service Award, established by Roger '68 and Laurie Krahn, shall be awarded to a sophomore or junior who has demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. Students are selected through a nomination process.

The Merle and Delores Kudej Scholarship, established through the estate of Delores Kudej, shall be awarded to qualified second year students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, who have attained at least a 2.5 grade point average, have high moral standards and are of good character, and have never been convicted of a felony or have a criminal record.

The Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award, established by George Kuh '68, regent emeritus, Warren Kuh '74, and Kristian Kuh '97, shall be given each year to a student whose character, leadership, and participation in co-curricular and other educationally purposeful activities enhance the quality of campus life. This award is managed through an application process.

The David and Camille Kundert Leadership Scholarship, established by friends and colleagues in honor of David and Camille and in recognition of David's outstanding leadership and accomplishments throughout his career, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Robert R. Kust Memorial Family Scholarship, established by family to honor the life of Robert Kust, shall be awarded to students based on the following criteria:  students from families with multiple children attending Luther College at the same time, students from families with multiple children in college at the same time, academic ability and success, participation in co-curricular activities, or students whose parents or grandparents have served in a branch of the armed forces.

The Eric and Jennifer Lahaie Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Jennifer (Filteau) '99 and Eric Lahaie '00, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who desire to study abroad. First preference shall be given to students wishing to study on an accredited and approved program in Africa.

The Amanda O. Langemo Scholarship, established through the estate of Amanda Langemo, a former Luther College English department faculty member, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Edward N. and Lorraine E. Larson Family Fund, established by Edward '43 and Lorraine Larson, shall be awarded to qualified students, with or without regard to financial need, with preference given to students of superior academic achievement and scholarship, and who possess an active and sincere Christian character. Scholarship may be awarded to the same student for each of his or her years enrolled.

The Oscar and Betha Larson Endowed Scholarship, established by O. Dale Larson '61 in honor of his parents, to be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Lee Family Scholarship, established by Elaina Lee '94 in honor of Luther College alumni Dr. Elaina R. Lee '94, Rev. Allen V. Lee '30, Dr. Harold Kittilson '56, and Rev. Rebecca Lee '73, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. 

The Robert H. Lee Endowed Scholarship, established by the family of Robert H. Lee '55, to be awarded to students who are not residents of Iowa with priority given to students who graduated from Hudson Senior High School, Hudson,  Wisconsin., and if none, preferably students from Wisconsin.

The Malinda Letsch Scholarship, established through the estate of Malinda Letsch, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Ellen Hanson Lindop Scholarship, established by Ellen (Hanson) Lindop '46, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Anna (Storaasli) Lionberger Memorial Scholarship, established by Paul '49 and Justine (Holum) Lionberger '50 to honor the memory of Paul's mother, Anna, who dedicated years of service to students and faculty through the Luther College Food Service and reflecting her values, "I am made rich by what I give." The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who demonstrate qualities of leadership and volunteerism and have demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Frank and Donna Liston Family Scholarship, established by Frank '61 and Donna (Burt) Liston '63, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Richard and Elaine Looft Scholarship, established by Jim '85 and Martha (Anderson) Looft '83 in honor of Jim's parents, Richard '56 and Elaine (Wischhoff) Looft '57, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Robert H. and Muriel C. Lounsberry Scholarship, established in appreciation and recognition of the achievements in agriculture made by Robert '40 and Muriel Lounsberry, shall be awarded to qualified rural Iowa students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Lloyd R. and Susie L. Loven Scholarship, established through the estate of Lloyd and Susie Loven by the Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Lawrence and Betty Lubben Scholarship, established by Robert '69, David '74, and Gary Lubben '76 in honor of their parents for the many sacrifices made to enable them to be the first generation of their families to attend college. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students who represent the first generation to attend college.

The Luther College Alumni Veterans Association Scholarship, established by alumni and friends to honor those alumni who have served our country in the United States Military, shall be awarded to qualified students who have honorably served in the U.S. Military or who are continuing to serve in an active duty status with a U.S. Reserve or National Guard Unit. If none, then consideration shall be given to dependents of alumni veterans.

The Luther Community Scholarship, established on Founders Day in honor of all Luther students by the college faculty and staff, to be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Luther College Regents' Promise Scholarship, formed out of the Your Future, Our Promise: Regents' Promise Scholarship Challenge, this fund is supported by all current, emeritus, and past Luther College Board of Regents, and shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Luther College Rochester Semester Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated financial need for financial assistance, taking part in the Rochester Semester program. The Luther College Rochester Semester is a dynamic blend of courses and internships. Launched as part of the Inspired.Empowered.Engaged. Strategic Plan 2018-2023, this program is intended to take advantage of the exciting opportunities available a mere 65 miles to the north of Decorah. It provides a platform for students to engage in high-impact, career-related experiential learning. Drawing on the college’s expansive alumni base in the area, students will have unique access to immersive learning opportunities designed to help them discern their callings; acquire concrete, job-related experience; and facilitate career networking.

The Luther College Woman's Club Scholarship, established through the generosity of the Luther College Woman's Club, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Lutheran Brotherhood Fund for Lutheran Students, established by Lutheran Brotherhood through the Lutheran Brotherhood Endowment Challenge Grant, shall be awarded to qualified Lutheran students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Lutheran Heritage Scholarship for Southern Wisconsin, established by Katherine Johnson-Becklin and Jay Becklin, shall be awarded to qualified students of Lutheran heritage, active in his or her faith, from southern Wisconsin, with demonstrated high scholarship/academic achievement, and who otherwise might not attend Luther. It is the donor's intent that this scholarship remain with the selected student for his or her four years at Luther. This scholarship is with or without regard to financial need.

M 

The Mabe's Pizza Endowed Scholarship, established by Mabel White, founder of Mabe's Pizza, in recognition of her many years of association with the students, faculty, and staff of Luther College. The scholarship commemorates the 30th anniversary of Mabe's Pizza. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who demonstrate a need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from northeast Iowa.

The Marriott Success Award Fund, established by The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation in honor of Marriott International CEO and Luther alumnus, Arne Sorenson '80, after completing his third term and final year of service on the Luther College Board of Regents. This fund will help to ensure recipients of the Morris A. Sorenson Family Scholarship have the necessary financial resources to fully engage with experiential learning (e.g., internship, service learning trip, collaborative research fellowship) and other high-impact experiences as part of their liberal arts education. It will also be used to fund textbooks, lab supplies or other necessities that may be out of reach for high-need students.

The Christopher Martinat Memorial Scholarship, established by classmates and friends in memory of Christopher Martinat who died at the age of nineteen as a result of a car accident. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Rev. Ronald Martinson Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Ron Martinson '57, shall be awarded to students in need of financial assistance from Iowa who are children of pastors. If no one from Iowa qualifies, students from the Midwest who are children of pastors may qualify.

The Mathews Family Scholarship, established by Karen (Mathews) '65 and Mark Stuart, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from Albert Lea, Minnesota.

The Paul R. and Miri K. Mattson Scholarship, established by Paul '81 and Miri (Peterson) Mattson '81, shall be awarded to qualified students from Hosanna Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota, without regard to financial need. If none, preference shall be given to international students who can show evidence of financial need.

The Stephen and Margeen Mau Endowed Scholarship, established by Stephen '68 and Margeen (Bolson) Mau '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance. When possible, first preference shall be given to students from La Crescent, Minnesota.

The Lela Jackson McLeod Scholarship, established by Lela McLeod, shall be awarded to qualified students showing evidence of high academic potential and need for financial assistance.

The David and Patricia Meyer Family Scholarship, established in honor of the Meyer's three sons, Scott '05, John '08 and Paul '11, shall be awarded to qualified students from South Dakota, with or without regard to financial need.

The Todd and Nicole Michaels Endowed Scholarship, established by Todd '93 and Nicole Michaels, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance. When possible, first preference shall be given to students from Hudson, Wisconsin or Bangor, Wisconsin.

The Midwest Benefits, Inc. Scholarship, established by Sue (Weselmann) '74 and Loren Kiel, to be awarded to dependents of employees of Midwest Benefits, Inc. and then to other qualified students based on merit.

The David E.G. and M. Patricia Miller Scholarship, established by Dave '64 and Pat Miller, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Edward C. and Constance M. Miller Family Scholarship, established by Edward and Constance Miller, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Mindrum-Nowland Scholarship, established by Ronald ’54 and Frieda (Mindrum) Nowland ’54, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Corey and Suzanne (Roverud) Mineck Scholarship, established by Suzanne (Roverud) '96 and Corey Mineck, shall be awarded to qualified students who wish to study abroad, or travel abroad, on an approved Luther College academic program, and whose financial circumstances prohibit them from realizing this goal.

The Kenneth D. and Dorothy J. Moburg Scholarship, established by Ken and Dorothy Moburg in appreciation of the quality of the academic program and the sensitive spiritual guidance provided by Luther College to their children: Steven '73, Donna '76, Lucia '80, and Peter '82. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are active members of a Lutheran congregation.

The Dr. Dale V. and Barbara Moen Scholarship, established by Barbara (Moen) '65 and Richard Amundson '64 in honor of Dale '35 and Barbara Moen. Dale served the Shell Lake, Wisconsin area in general medical practice for over 43 years. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students from the Shell Lake, Wisconsin area, or to students from Wisconsin.

The Harlan T. Moen Memorial Scholarship, established by Violet Moen in memory of her husband, Harlan '37, shall be awarded to qualified students based upon above average academic performance and demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from Cherokee County in the state of Iowa, or students from the Midwest.

The Dr. Stanley T. F. Moen Scholarship, established by Stanley Moen, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The John Mohler Scholarship, established through the estate of Verlaine Mohler in memory of her son John Mohler, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance and who are planning to attend an accredited law school after graduating from Luther College.

The Duane R. Monette Scholarship, established through the estate of Duane Monette '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Tom and Ann Monson Family Scholarship, established by Tom '77 and Ann (Johnson) Monson '78, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Laura Mork Scholarship, established by Arthur '24 and Laura (Vellekson) Mork, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Ruth Mostrom Scholarship for International Students, established by Ruth Mostrom, professor emerita of Latin. Mostrom was one of the college's first female faculty and administrators, serving as registrar and teaching Greek and Latin among other positions, from 1950-1981. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified international students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Ingolf Motland Scholarship, established by Ingolf Motland in loving memory of his parents, Peder and Martha Motland, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Murray-Snyder Family Scholarship, established by Tom and Jean Murray in honor of their parents, Thomas and Alfea Murray and Arnold and Myra Snyder, and in honor of their sons Christopher and James. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Ray and Betty J. Musgrave Scholarship, established by Ray and Betty Musgrave, shall be awarded to equal numbers of qualified male and female students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from Huntley, Illinois; students from rural communities of McHenry County, Illinois; or, students from rural communities in Illinois.

N 

The Sylvia Gift Nabukeera Scholarship, established by friends of Sylvia Gift Nabukeera '10, who passed away in 2011 in Uganda. Sylvia’s life was an incredible journey, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Before Luther, Sylvia attended Mahindra United World College of India. At Luther she was involved in the Black Student Union, Diversity Center, Gospel Choir, BTQ (Beta Theta Omega: Women's Leadership Organization) and Student Senate. She planned to pursue further education and was committed to working in Uganda in a non-profit organization to help children facing hardships similar to her own childhood. The scholarship shall be awarded to African women pursuing their undergraduate education at Luther College.

The Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission Scholarship, established by the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission, shall be awarded to qualified students who are graduates of the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission School in Rock Point, Arizona. If no students are available, preference will be given to other Navajo or Native American students.

The Nelson Scholarship, established by the Nelson families as a memorial to the pioneer Nelson families of Mayville, North Dakota and Viroqua, Wisconsin, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Nelson Family Scholarship, established by Roald '54 and Ruth Nelson along with their children: Doug '82, Sue '84, Jen '88, and Carrie '91. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Albin J. and Tillie M. Nelson Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends of Albin Nelson '39 in his memory, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Carolyn and James Nelson Scholarship, established by Carolyn (Nuttall) '62 and James Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Connie Jolstad Nelson Scholarship, established by Connie (Jolstad) Nelson '60, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference will be given to first-generation college students.

The Dean and Barbara Nelson Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Dean '69 and Barbara Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified students who wish to study abroad on an approved Luther College academic program (year-long, semester, summer, or January-term) and whose financial circumstances prohibit them from realizing this goal. The scholarship shall benefit students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students who graduated from Decorah High School.

The Jan A. Nelson Scholarship, established by Jan Nelson '70, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Consideration will be given to students who have an interest in serving in law enforcement or serving in branches of a state or federal government. This scholarship is not intended for students who are planning to be a candidate for an elective office at the state or federal level.

The Joy and Elizabeth Nelson Scholarship, established through the estate of Joy L. Nelson, a friend of the college, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Justin A. and Milly M. Nelson Scholarship, established by Justin '41 and Milly (Meyer) Nelson '44, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to qualified students whose parents are employees of The Quaker Oats Company.

The Lloyd '51 and LaVine Nelson Scholarship, established by Lloyd Nelson '51, shall be awarded to qualified students from Mower, Freeborn, and Steele Counties in Minnesota, with demonstrated need for financial assistance. It is the intent of the donor for scholarships to be awarded to first-year students and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Mark and Denise Nelson Scholarship, established by Mark and Denise Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Ole A. Nelson Scholarship, established through the estate of Ole Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Casper B. and Nora J. Nervig Scholarship, established by Luther Nervig '64 and Sylvia (Nervig) Schmid '66 in honor of their parents, Casper '25 and Nora Nervig, and in appreciation of the education provided to four generations of the Nervig family, beginning with Anders Johansen Nervig from 1890 to 1893. The scholarship shall be awarded to junior or senior students who have maintained a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average.

The Neubauer Family Scholarship, established by Dietrich Jessen '15 in honor of the love and service to Luther College exhibited by the work of Kirk '76 and Trish Neubauer, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Neve Family Scholarship, established by Douglas '77 and Rebecca (Gaumnitz) Neve '77, shall be awarded to qualified students who have demonstrated an interest and an affinity for evangelistic efforts in the Christian community.

The Nilsestuen-Peterson Family Scholarship, established by Karen (Nilsestuen) Peterson '65 in memory of her husband, Rev. Deane Peterson '64, and in honor of their families. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dale and Sunny Nimrod Family Scholarship, established by Dale and Sunny Nimrod in honor of their sons: Andrew '90, Adam '94, and Jacob '01. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Stephen W. and Kari M. Noltner Scholarship, established by Steve '81 and Kari Noltner, shall be awarded to juniors taking physical chemistry to encourage the recipient(s) to fully enjoy all the activities of college life during a very difficult year.

The Nordhem Family Scholarship, established by Alan '61 and Willis Nordhem '49 in memory of their parents, Victor and Irene Nordhem, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Chip and Jari Norris Endowed Leadership Scholarship, established by David (Chip) '82 and Jari Norris, shall be awarded to qualified students in need of financial assistance who have maintained a 3.0 GPA, and have demonstrated community leadership and service in high school.

The Norse 2001 Annual Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Nottingham Alumni Scholarship, established by Nottingham program alumni, shall be awarded to qualified students, without regard to financial need, participating in the Nottingham Program. If in any given year, a qualified student is not available, or if the Nottingham Program is discontinued, awards may be directed to support students participating in a study-abroad program experience. The Nottingham Program at Luther began during the 1972-1973 academic year. This scholarship honors faculty, staff, and students who have participated in the program.

The Neal and Gerry Nottleson Scholarship, established by Neal '59 and Gerry (Mosby) Nottleson '59, shall be awarded to qualified Regent Scholars who can show evidence of a great need for financial assistance.

The Jackson Ode and Cara Kennedy-Ode Scholarship, established by Jackson Ode '93 and Cara Kennedy-Ode '94, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Anders Christian Olsen and Anna Reisetter Olsen Scholarship, established by Anna Margrethe Olsen, shall be awarded to qualified students who demonstrated financial need, for the purpose of education, research, and the advancement of learning.

The Jeremy Olsen and Katie Murphy-Olsen Scholarship, established by Jeremy Olsen '02 and Katie Murphy-Olsen, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Clifford O. Olson Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Ella L. Olson in memory of her husband Clifford '27, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The David G. Olson '76 Scholarship, established by Conway and Katherine Olson in appreciation of their son's time at Luther College, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to high-need students from underrepresented populations.

The Hans and Grace Olson Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Grace Alice Olson, shall be awarded to qualified students with preference given to members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Calamus, Iowa, or to students from Clinton County, Iowa.

The Leon Olson Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends of Leon Olson '63, shall be awarded to qualified students with a good scholastic record, with preference given to students from Clinton County, Iowa, or if none, students from the state of Iowa.

The Myrtle J. Olson Scholarship, established through the estate of Myrtle Olson in memory of her late husband Arthur G. Olson (1900-1982), shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Owen L. and Helen R. Olson Scholarship, established by Owen '32 and Helen Olson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from the area served by Muscatine Community College, Muscatine, Iowa, and from Fayette County, Iowa.

The Iver A. Opstad Scholarship, established through the estate of Iver A. Opstad '11, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The George and Carole Orness Study Abroad Scholarship, established by George '67 and Carole (Rust) Orness '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to be used for a study-abroad experience.

The Susan L. Osheim Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Susan Osheim '71, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Jarl L. (Jay) Osmundson Memorial Scholarship, established by the Osmundson family in memory of Jay Osmundson '75, to be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Maud E. Otjen Scholarship, established through the estate of Maud Otjen in honor and memory of her parents, Carl N. Neprud and Anna K. Neprud, and her brothers and sister, Nels O. Neprud, Carl A. Neprud, and Marion C. Neprud. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from the Coon Valley and Westby, Wisconsin areas.

The Vira and Frank Palombi Scholarship, established by Barbara Palombi '71, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with consideration given to female students from southern Wisconsin.

The Rodd Gardner Parmelee Scholarship, established by Carolyn K. Parmelee in memory of Rodd Gardner Parmelee '87, and in honor of all family members of William Hall King and Martha Yager King, originally of Algona, Iowa. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Bob and Barb Paulson Family Scholarship, established by Bob '78 and Barb Paulson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Ruth and Lynn Paulson Academic Opportunity Scholarship, established by Lynn '76 and Ruth (Hanna) Paulson '78, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, facing financial challenges that threaten to keep them from achieving an undergraduate degree. The recipient(s) must be in good academic standing.

The Allen and Karen Peckham Family Scholarship, established by Allen '69 and Karen (Anderson) Peckham '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students from Outagamie County, Wisconsin. Further preference shall be given to students from Brown, Calumet, Manitowoc, and Winnebago Counties in Wisconsin.

The Carl W. Petersen Scholarship, established through the estate of Carl Petersen, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Doris H. Peterson Memorial Scholarship, established by Walter Peterson in memory of his wife, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance and who show academic excellence.

The Hamlet E. and Thelma Peterson Scholarship, established in memory of Hamlet E. '22 and Thelma Peterson, shall be awarded for use in the senior year to students who exhibit superior scholastic ability, leadership, and Christian principles. "Coach Pete" coached football, basketball, baseball, and track at Luther College for more than four decades.

The Hiram Peterson Memorial Scholarship, established by Darlene (Peterson) '55 and Robert Jones in memory of Hiram Peterson. Hiram was a steward for the Peterson family of rural Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. He never married and instead devoted his life to preserving the family farm and the Peterson heritage during his lifetime and for succeeding generations. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students who are residents of Mower County, Minnesota, or whose US Postal Service address is Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

The Roger W. and Colleen F. Peterson Church Relations Scholarship, established by Colleen (Voehl) Peterson '58 and the Peterson family to honor Roger Peterson '56, and his work as director of church relations at Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to students that have demonstrated leadership within their own congregations through worship, educational endeavors, youth programs, or involvement in the church organization at either local, synod, national, or international levels.

The David and Ann Preus Scholarship, established by David '43 and Ann Preus, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Lucile Brickner Brown Price Scholarship, established by Lucile B. Price, shall be awarded to first- or second-year female students who have graduated in the top ten percent of their high school classes and show potential for academic success at Luther. First preference shall be given to students graduating from Decorah (Iowa) Senior High School.

The Norbert L. Pruisner Memorial Scholarship, established by family, classmates, teammates, and friends in memory of Norbert Pruisner '61, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Quandahl Food Ranch Scholarship, established by Osmond and Phyllis Quandahl, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Quandahl-Osmundson Family Scholarship, established by Carrie Quandahl to commemorate the family's Scandinavian heritage and the Christian values, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from Waukon, Iowa.

The Ida Ellerman Radke Endowed Scholarship, established by Alvida Hale in loving memory of her sister, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The James D. Rasmussen Family Scholarship, established by Terry (Thiele) Rasmussen '67, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to women of color who live and attended a high school in the United States.

The Melvin A. Rasmussen Scholarship, established through the estate of Melvin Rasmussen, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Reader's Digest Foundation Scholarship, established by the Reader's Digest Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Reckling-Chossek Scholarship, established by Walt '68 and Aleta (Reckling) Chossek '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with preference given to African-American students or students from Tanzania.

The Bill and Lisa Reece Family Scholarship, established by Bill '03 and Lisa Reece, shall be awarded to qualified traditional undergraduate students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students exhibiting high character through leadership activities or roles, such as peer counseling or tutoring, student government, admissions ambassadors, resident assistants, etc.

The Reilly Construction Company Scholarship, established by Reilly Construction Company, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to those whose family works for a member company of the Iowa Associated General Contractors Organization, or, from Winneshiek County, Iowa.

The Alan Duane and Heidi Koukkari Reitz Scholarship, established by Alan '83 and Heidi (Koukkari) Reitz '84, shall be awarded to qualified students from Sartell, Minnesota, with preference given to students of the Lutheran faith with demonstrated need for financial assistance. If no students from Sartell, Minnesota qualify, then students from Stearns or Benton Counties, Minnesota, may be considered.

The Alvin S. and Velma Renaas Scholarship, established by Velma (Beers) '54 and Alvin Renaas, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Entering students must rank in the top 20 percent of his/her class, and upper class students must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

The James and Sharon (Rose) Rendack Scholarship, established by Sharon (Rose) '71 and James Rendack, shall be awarded to qualified students who do not have access to the higher levels of merit-based awards and whose demonstrated financial need does not qualify them for federal or state grant assistance.

The Rettig/Swenson Promise Scholarship, established by Mary Lynn (Swenson) '79 and David Rettig, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Alice Reuter Scholarship, established through the estate of Alice Reuter '77, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Walter W. '86 and Nancy L. Roach Scholarship, established by Wally '86 and Nancy Roach, shall be awarded to qualified students from the Midwest with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are the child of a parent who graduated from Luther College.

The Thomas R. Roberts Memorial Scholarship, established in honor of Thomas R. Roberts, a distinguished educator and respected community leader, by his children, all of whom attended Luther College: Thomas R. Roberts, Jr. '38, Col. Lucile M. Roberts '42, Ruth E. (Roberts) Peacock '40, and Dr. Mary Margaret Roberts '44. The scholarship shall be awarded to graduating seniors from Thomas R. Roberts High School in Decorah, Iowa, based on character, scholarship, and potential for leadership and service in business and professional and community life, with preference given to members of the National Honor Society.

The Thomas R. Roberts, Jr. and Henrietta Vikesland Roberts Scholarship, established by Ruth (Roberts) Peacock '40, Col. Lucile M. Roberts '42, and Mary Margaret Roberts '44 in memory of two distinguished Decorah community leaders--Thomas R. Roberts, Jr. '38 and Henrietta Vikesland Roberts. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, with first preference given to those who have received the Thomas R. Roberts Memorial Scholarship, or to Decorah sophomore, junior, or senior students who are outstanding in scholarship, character, and potential for leadership and service in business, professional, and community life.

The Robertson Family Scholarship, established by Janet Robertson '60, Mary Ann (Robertson) Peters '55, Karen (Robertson) Gifford '57, and Jean (Robertson) Cohee, in honor of their parents, Arnold O. and Marguerite C. Robertson. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The William P. Ronan Scholarship, established by William Ronan '24, shall be awarded qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Entering students must rank in the top 20 percent of his/her class, and upper class students must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

The Kristen Johansen Rood Scholarship, established by Joseph C. Rood in honor of Kristen Johansen Rood, who emigrated from Norway in 1850 and from Wiota, Wisconsin, in 1861 assisted financially to start Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to members of the East Wiota (WI) Church.

The Rotto Family Scholarship, established in celebration of the generations of Rotto family members who have attended Luther College, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Loyal and Marilyn Rue Study Abroad Scholarship, established by the 1977-1978 Nottingham Program Alumni in honor and in celebration of Loyal and Marilyn Rue. The Rues have twice led the Luther College Nottingham Program, the first in 1977-78 and the second in 2001-02. The Rues have had a career-long dedication to Luther College and are deeply committed to helping Luther students study abroad. The scholarship shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who wish to study abroad on an approved Luther College academic program.

The Karl Runde Memorial Scholarship, established by Steven Runde '97 in memory of Karl Runde. Karl was a senior at Dubuque Senior High School in 1997 when he was killed, with his mother and father, in a car accident while returning from a track and field meet. A quiet and modest young man, he demonstrated a respect for his own life as well as others, and always kept a positive outlook on life. Karl participated in cross-country, wrestling, and track and field, and was also an Eagle Scout. His hard work and commitment could be witnessed in the classroom, on the playing field, and in his community. Karl's plan to continue education and athletics at Luther College were never realized. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students from Dubuque Senior High School, Dubuque, Iowa, with preference given to students having earned their Eagle Scout award. If none, then preference shall be given to students from the Dubuque area.

The Leland and Ina Sabby Scholarship, established by Paul Sabby '74, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Jacob and Tina Sand Memorial Scholarship, established by Oliver Sand '27, shall be awarded to qualified international students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Sandersfeld Endowed Scholarship, established by Elisabeth (Marvin) '00 and Shane Sandersfeld, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to qualified students who currently reside in or are a resident of a Latin American country.

The Sathe Scholars Opportunity Scholarship, part of the Robert and Dell Ann Sathe Scholars Endowments, established by Robert '68 and Dell Ann (Kappus) Sathe '68, shall be awarded to qualified underprivileged students (first-generation, low-income, etc.) with demonstrated need for financial assistance, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance. This Access and Opportunity scholarship provides full- or partial-need scholarship support to offset the average Luther-funded scholarship award, assisting in institutional budget relief.

The Sathe Scholars Promise Scholarship, part of the Robert and Dell Ann Sathe Scholars Endowments, established by Robert '68 and Dell Ann (Kappus) Sathe '68, shall be awarded to qualified underprivileged students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Britt Sather Scholarship, established by Britt Sather '78, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from Fillmore County, Minnesota, or if none qualify, students from Southeastern Minnesota.

The Tonya and Corey Schmidt Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Tonya (Schwers) '97 and Corey Schmidt '98, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to be used for a study abroad experience.

The Robert and Mary Schneider Memorial Scholarship, established through an estate provision by Robert '70 and Mary Schneider, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and outstanding academic ability. Preference shall be given to students from Arizona, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Medera County, California.

The Edsel and Helen Schweizer Scholarship, established to honor Edsel and Helen Schweizer for their dedication and service to the students, faculty, and staff of Luther College. Edsel served as professor of psychology for 34 years (1950-1984), head football coach for 26 years (1952-1977), and as athletic director for 16 years (1967-1983). His faith and integrity were the foundation of his professional life. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified male students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students who are active in extra-curricular activities.

The Matthew A. Schwendeman Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Matthew in the spirit of his kindness and love, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who are transferring to Luther College from Northeast Iowa Community College.

The Mildred and Vernon Serfling Scholarship, established by Vernon Serfling, shall be awarded to students from farm families in Fillmore County, Minnesota who show evidence of need for financial assistance. If no farm families are available, the scholarship shall be awarded to students from Fillmore County, Minnesota.

The Sersland-Nelson Family Scholarship, established by Edgar '38 and Gerda (Nelson) Sersland, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from the Newton, Iowa area.

The Richard L. and Margaretha Sheppard Scholarship, established by Stephen '71 and Katie (Kvale) Sheppard '71, shall be awarded to qualified Asian-American students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. If none, it shall be awarded to any qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Anjela Shutts and Peter Kitundu Scholarship, established by Anjela Shutts '93 and Peter Kitundu, shall be awarded to qualified first generation students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Siebert Founding Congregation Award, established in 1981 by the college through a grant from the Siebert Lutheran Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students who are members of the Luther College founding congregations located in Wisconsin. Should there not be any qualified students, then preference shall be given to students who are active in a Lutheran congregation in the geographic focus area of the Siebert Lutheran Foundation: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Kenosha counties; or, are active in a Lutheran congregation in Wisconsin.

The Six Leaves Study Abroad Scholarship, established by John '59 and Dorothy Brugge, the name of which is derived from the number of leaves in the Brugge dining room table, where members of the Brugge family and friends of Luther College often gather. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to be used for a study abroad experience.

The James M. and Helen K. Smith Scholarship, established by Helen Smith, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Sodexo Meal Plan Award, established by Sodexo, shall be awarded to qualified international students enrolled full time who: are living on campus in housing that requires a board plan; are working for Sodexo Dining Services on average, a minimum of 6 hours per week; and, have continuous employment with Sodexo Dining Services throughout the semester in the Cafeteria, Catering, Marty's, Nordic Brew, Oneota Market, and/or Sunnyside. 

The Eleanor M. Solberg Scholarship, established through the estate of Eleanor M. Solberg and supported by the Eleanor M. Solberg Fund at the InFaith Community Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The T. Albon and Gladys E. Sordahl Scholarship, established by Tex Sordahl '73 in honor of his parents and in recognition of the family connection of his maternal grandfather, Albert T. Fortun, who attended Luther College from 1880-1882. The scholarship shall be awarded to students from Viroqua, Wisconsin based on academic merit. If none, then awards shall be made to qualified students from Vernon County, Wisconsin, and then to southwestern Wisconsin.

The Morris A. Sorenson Family Scholarship, established by Morris A. Sorenson, Jr. '49, in recognition of the long identification of the Morris A. Sorenson family with Luther College, and the attendance and/or graduation of the following family members: Morris A. Sorenson (1916-1920); Ruth Sorenson Anderson (1943-1944); Morris A. Sorenson, Jr. (1945-1949); Margaret Sorenson Price (1948-1952); Randal K. Anderson (1967-1970); Bonnie Schilling Anderson (1968-1970); Arne M. Sorenson (1976-1980); Michael D. Sorenson (1980-1984); and Lars P. Sorenson (2013-2017). The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic achievement with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need.

The Sorlien Family Scholarship, established by Susan Sorlien '73 and Arne Sorlien '51 in honor of the long relationship between the Sorlien family and Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Terry and Suzanne Sorom Scholarship, established by Terry '62 and Suzanne Sorom, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Spiegler Family Scholarship, established by Robert '72 and Karen (Crump) Spiegler '72, shall be awarded to qualified students from Waukon, Iowa or from Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota, who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Spoonheim/Willis Scholarship, established by Joel Spoonheim '92 and Lani Willis '94, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate integrity and intellectual curiosity, and serve others, participate in the arts, or engage in social activism.

The St. John Lutheran Church Scholarship, established through the memorials and bequests of faithful members of St. John Lutheran Church, Bellevue, Iowa, with preference to benefit students from this congregation. If none, the scholarship shall be awarded to students from Bellevue, Iowa.

The Knute D. and Cathinka P. Stalland Scholarship, established through the estate of Knute Stalland '18, shall be awarded to qualified male students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Olai and Caroline Steen Scholarship, established by Olai and Caroline Steen of Clinton, Minnesota, shall be awarded to students who have demonstrated high levels of academic achievement, religious leadership, and Christian commitment.

The Halberta Steensland Scholarship, established through the estate of Halberta Steensland in memory of her father, Morton Steensland, class of 1890, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Ruth Steinmetz Scholarship, established through the estate of Ruth Steinmetz, in appreciation of Ruth's long term friendship with Luther connections: Maynard and Minerva Aaker, Frank and Marge Barth, and development staff members of the college. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Ruth Steinmetz Center for Global Learning Scholarship, established through the estate of Ruth Steinmetz, in appreciation of Ruth's long term friendship with Luther connections: Maynard and Minerva Aaker, Frank and Marge Barth, and development staff members of the college. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance participating in study abroad programs.

The Genevieve E. Stelberg Award, established through the estate of Genevieve Stelberg, shall be awarded to students selected on the basis of participation in co-curricular activities rather than on high academic achievement or extreme financial need.

The Jeanne (Gilbertson) Stelloh Scholarship, established by Tom and Juanita Gilbertson in honor of Jeanne Gilbertson '47, and her parents, Arnie and Martha Gilbertson. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who have been confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and who demonstrate need for financial assistance.

The Steven and Carmen Stenhaug Scholarship, established by Steven '81 and Carmen (Hansen) Stenhaug '82, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Tim and Carol Barth Stoddard Scholarship, established by Carol (Barth) '75 and Tim Stoddard, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The William and Muriel Stoneman Family Scholarship, established by the Stoneman Family, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate character, church and school involvement, and leadership abilities.

The Dorothy Storts Scholarship, established by Roy Storts, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

The Roy L. Storts Scholarship, established by Roy Storts, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Preference shall be given to students from Clinton County, Iowa.

The Helen A. Strand Scholarship, established by Marilyn Bohl '56 in honor of the work and dedication of Dr. Strand as a member of the education department faculty, shall be awarded with the intention to build and support a diverse student population with preference given to students who show evidence of need for financial assistance. Additional, but not primary, preference shall be given to students from Coachella High School, Coachella, California.

The Rev. and Mrs. E.I. Strom Scholarship, established through the estate of Solveig (Strom) Zell, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The George and Arline Strum Scholarship, established by Miriam (Strum) Odden '62 and Karen (Strum) Bear '70 in honor of their parents, George '34 and Arline Strum. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Stull-Burgart Scholarship, established by Melissa Stull ’03 and Jason Burgart ’03, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Robert and June Swenson Scholarship, established by Robert and June Swenson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to students who attend West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. Second preference shall be given to graduates of North Fayette Valley Community Schools in West Union, Iowa.

The Hannah and Ida Swensrud Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Ida Swensrud, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Symonds-Capretz Family Scholarship, established by James '72 and Susan (Capretz) Symonds '72, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dewey Tatro and Grace MacNeil Tatro Memorial Scholarship, established by Grace MacNeil Tatro, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Arnold I. '39 and Stella M. (Barstad) Temte '41 Scholarship, established by the Temte children in honor of the sacrifices made by their Norwegian ancestors, especially their grandparents, who during the great depression, found the means for their parents to attend Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified first-year students, based on academic potential and financial need, with at least one parent who is an alumna or alumnus of Luther College.

The Ralph and Carol Thompson Scholarship, established by Ralph '70 and Carol Thompson, shall be awarded to qualified students, with first preference given to children of pastors of the ELCA, and then to qualified students based on merit, without regard to need.

Thurmer Memorial Scholarship, established by Daniel '66 and Mary Ann (Skifton) Thurmer '68 to remember the short five and one-half years of Jonathan Thurmer's cheerful and loving life. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students, with or without regard to financial need, showing promise and with good academic standing.

The Henry S. Tollefson Scholarship, established through the estate of Henry Tollefson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from rural areas.

The Martin and Esther Tollund Memorial Scholarship, established by Robert Tollund '58 to increase students attending Luther College from Mount Horeb High School. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students, with preference given to first year students who graduated from Mount Horeb High School, Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. If there are none, awards shall be made to upper class students from Mount Horeb High School.

The Tomson Family Scholarship, established by Marti (Tomson) '84 and William Rodamaker and O.J. and Patricia Tomson, shall be awarded to qualified sophomore, junior, or senior students from the North Central Iowa region in good academic standing with a 3.0 GPA or better, with or without regard to financial need.

The John W. Torgelson Scholarship, established by Delores (Hanson) Torgelson '53 in memory of her husband John '50, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Torgerson Nordic Studies Summer ISS Student Scholarship, established by Rick and Judy Torgerson, provides support for students to attend and study at the University of Oslo during the summer.

The Judy Torgerson Study Abroad Scholarship, established by alumni and friends in appreciation of the dedication and service of Judy Torgerson to the Luther College academic experience--most especially the international academic experience--and the resulting influence it has had on the lives of thousands of students and alumni. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who desire to take part in a Luther College study abroad program, with or without regard to demonstrated need, who due to financial circumstances might otherwise not be able to study internationally. The scholarship may support recipients for a year-long, semester, or January-term experience.

The Richard and Judith Torgerson Sesquicentennial Scholarship, established originally as the Sesquicentennial Scholarship Fund, this scholarship was renamed to honor the presidency and leadership of Rick and Judy Torgerson. This scholarship was supported by alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and friends of the college in honor of President Torgerson's retirement in 2013. Richard L. Torgerson punctuated his fourteen years at Luther College with high energy and accomplishment. Focused on strategic planning from his first year, he achieved the goals of two strategic plans and his fundraising achievements exceeded $200 million, increasing the endowment and improving the physical plant. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Osul and Martha Torrison Scholarship, established by the Torrison families as a memorial to Osul and Martha Torrison, pioneer settlers of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Osul and Martha had eight sons, all of whom attended Luther College, and two daughters. Osul Torrison was a member of the Luther College Board of Trustees from 1875-1884. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from the Manitowoc, Wisconsin area.

The Tuff Family Scholarship, established by David '58 and Florence Tuff, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Twin Cities Young Alumni Scholarship, established through young alumni support in the Twin Cities area, and further supported through the Get Down Give Back benefits held in the Minneapolis area. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The John Norman Urness Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Helen Fowler Urness in memory of her husband, John '14, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Harold and Lynette Usgaard Scholarship, established by Harold '69 and Lynette (Ellingson) Usgaard '70, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Theodore and Esther Vagts Scholarship, established through the estate of Theodore Vagts in memory of Theodore and Esther Vagts, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Vanaheim Scholarship, established by the seventeen senior class women who lived in Vanaheim during the 1963-1964 academic year. They have strengthened their friendships through the years with annual reunions. Patrons from the class of 1964 include: Karen (Wardell) Austad, Dorothy (Gentner) Becher, Marilyn (Utke) Dewitt, Jane (Pfister) Ellickson, Marion (Molzahn) Hampel, Nordis Heyerdahl, Rosemary (Sande) Hilton, Marguerite (Agena) Horn, Janet (Folvag) Jordan, Merilee (Schulz) Leonard, Dianne (Lenth) Marston, Joan (Gunther) Niemiec, Sybil (Brown) Pavey, Carol (Swansen) Potter, Judith (Stephenson) Probst, Mary (Dahlman) Rasmussen, and Barbara (Erickson) Weigand. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified female students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who exhibit a passion for their major.

The Voltmer Scholarship, established by Michael Voltmer '74, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to dependents of employees of the Voltmer Corporation. In years where there are none, the awards shall be given to other deserving students from Iowa or Minnesota.

The Raymond E. and Marilyn Wahlberg Scholarship, established in appreciation of the education two of their children received at Luther and in recognition of Ray Wahlberg's service to Luther as vice president and general counsel from 1984-97. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Solveig Johnson Walstrom Scholarship, established by Solveig (Johnson) Walstrom '70, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are of high academic standing.

The Wanberg Family Scholarship, established by Betty (Fey) '55 and Merle Peterson to honor the legacy of Rev. R.T. Wanberg '14, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Grace and Arthur Wangaard First Generation Student Scholarship, established by Susan Tjornehoj '76 and David Wangaard, shall be awarded to first generation immigrant, African American, or Native American students who come from families who have not benefited from the rich liberal arts experience at Luther College.

The Wetlaufer Family Scholarship, established by Roger '79 and Mary (DeVoe) Wetlaufer '79, shall be awarded to qualified students from Iowa with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Wicks Construction, Inc. Scholarship, established by Bradley and Darcy Anne (Olson) Wicks '82 in memory of Allan and Janenne Wicks. Allan and Janenne were founders of Wicks Construction and were instrumental in the long-standing relationship between Wicks Construction and Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to dependent children of Wicks Construction, Inc., and otherwise to students with an interest in protecting the environment.

The Wicks-England Family Scholarship, established by Margaret Wicks in acknowledgement of the strong leadership and many years of service of Russel M. Wicks on the Luther College Board of Regents, and on-behalf of the long-time relationship between the Wicks-England families and Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Joanne Elsa Kunde Wilken Scholarship, established by Karen (Wilken) Braun '85 in honor of JoAnne Elsa Kunde Wilken who was the first generation in her family to attend college, shall be awarded to qualified first-generation female students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Thomas G. and Betty E. Wilkens Scholarship, established through the estate of Tom '58 and Betty Wilkens, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are the first generation in their family to attend college.

The William A. and Molly J. Wilson Scholarship, established by William '68 and Molly Wilson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to students from Mount Pleasant, Iowa. If no qualified students, then preference shall be given to students from Henry County, Iowa, or students from southeastern Iowa.

The Larry and Jane Lee Winter Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Larry '83 and Jane Lee Winter, shall be awarded to qualified students participating in a study abroad program who have demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The WMF Scholarship shall be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

The Erling and Margaret Barth Wold Scholarship, established by Erling '38 and Margaret (Barth) Wold '41 in celebration of Margaret's fiftieth anniversary of graduation from Luther. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Shane Wolding Scholarship, established by Don '62 and Cathi Wolding, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from central Wisconsin.

The Wollan-Boleen Family Scholarship, established by Douglas Boleen '74 and Christine Wollan '76 in recognition of the invaluable experience Luther provided to their family. The scholarship shall be awarded to deserving students graduating from Monticello High School (Monticello, Minnesota), with preference given to first-year students.

The Womeldorf-Hamre Family Scholarship, established by Lilly (Hamre) '55 and Erlin Womeldorf in loving memory of their parents, Albert and Johanna Womeldorf and Knut and Cora Hamre, and in honor of their children, Roger, Joan '86, and Beth '89. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who are members of Decorah Lutheran Church and/or residents of Winneshiek County, Iowa.

The Woods Birkenholz Scholarship, established by Matthew '03 and Kelly Woods Birkenholz '03, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The World War II Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of those Luther College men and women who served in World War II, with special tribute to those who gave their lives for this country. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to those students who are descendants of Luther College graduates who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II.

The Xie Family Scholarship for Global Experience, established by Enwei Xie '94, shall be awarded to qualified international students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, and/or, to qualified students wishing to study abroad.

Y 

The J. Wilhelm Ylvisaker Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Karl H. Brunsdale to honor Luther's fifth president, who served from 1948-1962. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The J. Wilhelm and Lucille Ylvisaker Endowed Scholarship, established by James W. Ylvisaker '60 to honor his parents. J. Wilhelm Ylvisaker '21 served as Luther's fifth president from 1948-1962. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dick and Immy Young Scholarship, established by Scott Addington '69 as a testimony to an endearing friendship with the Youngs, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students from Black Hawk County, Iowa.

The James N. and Jodi Palma Young Scholarship, established by James '81 and Jodi (Palma) Young '81, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.
