Provost's Fund for Global Citizenship

Established by Jon Lund through a provision in his estate, this fund grows out of Luther College’s longstanding commitment to provide meaningful experiences that move students “into a larger world.” The fund recognizes the unique role of the Provost’s Office in spanning virtually all aspects of the Luther experience—from the shape of students’ academic lives, to the many types of engaged learning experiences student encounter (both within and outside the classroom), to the range of support programs and services necessary to help students be successful. More than ever, the world needs the type of globally aware, liberally educated, and deeply engaged students we aspire to graduate from Luther. The fund shall be used at the discretion of the Provost to support a variety of initiatives broadly related to the college’s global citizenship goals. These include, but are not limited to: providing emergency funds to support a current international student; funding expenses related to international travel that may not be covered through other scholarship sources (e.g., passport and visa fees, immunizations, required background checks, and travel costs associated with obtaining required documents); helping fund study away experiences; providing scouting funds to enable a faculty member to establish a new off-campus course; and, securing a guest speaker on a global citizenship topic. (Deferred Fund)
