Evelyn R. Barritt Creativity in Nursing Award

Established by Dr. Evelyn R. Barritt, former Dean and Professor of Nursing at Capital University (Ohio), The University of Iowa, and University of Miami (Florida), to be awarded to a graduating nursing student, nursing faculty member or alumni, and shall be presented by the nursing faculty on Commencement Weekend.

Dorian Summer Music Camp Scholarship for Advancing Passion for the Performing Arts

Established by George ’67 and Carole (Rust) Orness ’69 in acknowledgement that the college's impact often begins before a student enrolls at Luther College and that Dorian Summer Music Camps play an important role in identifying and encouraging a true passion for the performing arts in high school students. This fund is intended to provide a full camp scholarship, including one set of lessons, for student(s) entering the 11th or 12th grade, with demonstrated financial need, who show a deep passion for pursuing the performing arts, with preference given to qualified US students who bring diversity to the Dorian Summer Music Camp program. (Deferred Fund)

Bill Emerson Presidential Discretionary Fund

Established by Duane Emerson to honor his brother, William Emerson, former employee of Luther College. William was best known for not missing spring baseball games and for his volunteer time and efforts to assist President Farwell and Anderson in transporting special guests to the college. This fund provides, at the discretion of the President, money to assist in the areas of special visitors and lecturers to the college.

Fund for Special Need Students

Established by Gene N. Haugland '63, regent emeritus, this fund is used to provide equipment or services for use by qualified students with special needs who can show evidence of need for assistance, or for Luther College projects that serve a number of special need students. 

Elizabeth A. and Paul G. Jenson Medal

Established by Paul ’48 and Elizabeth (Dybdal) Jenson ’49, this fund supports the annual award of the Elizabeth A. and Paul G. Jenson Medal. The graduating senior class selects a classmate to receive the award based on those who best demonstrate the ideals of the college as demonstrated by service to fellow students and to the community in general. The award is presented as part of the platform ceremony at commencement each year.

Luther Festival of Writers Endowment Fund

Established to provide support for the Luther College Festival of Writing. The Lutheran Festival of Writing brings together poets and writers of fiction and non-fiction who have been shaped by the Lutheran tradition. Through readings, lectures, and panel discussions, the festival aims to highlight this writing for students, faculty, and a wider public, as well as support and encourage the vocation of serious writing and to cultivate a community of writers in the Lutheran world. The festival is hosted triennially.
