The Esther S. and Frank P. Barth Scholarship, established by the family (children, grandchildren, friends) of Esther and Frank Barth, who served as co-managers of the Luther Book Shop and canteen during the late 1940's and early 1950's. The scholarship shall be awarded to a National Merit Scholar (finalist or semi-finalist), with secondary preference to students majoring in Economics, Accounting, Management (business), or Mathematics.

The Karen Christine Beck Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics, established by Stanley and Isabel Beck in memory of Karen Beck, Luther class of 1974, shall be awarded to junior or senior women majoring in mathematics. Recipients must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and demonstrate true academic excellence.

The Cory L. Braun Memorial Scholarship, established by Karen (Wilken) Braun '85 in memory of her husband, Cory Braun '82, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in math with a GPA of 3.25 or above.

The John G. and Mildred Breiland Endowed Scholarship, established by John '33 and Mildred Breiland, shall be awarded to students majoring in mathematics, physics or chemistry who can show evidence of outstanding academic achievement and potential for successfully doing graduate work in their chosen fields.

The Brekken Family Scholarship, established by Alvin (Bud) '54 and Marion Brekken, shall be awarded to qualified students in need of financial assistance majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, or math, and shall be selected by the science faculty based on academic achievement.

The Erling H. Dyrstad Scholarship in Mathematics, established by James and Anne Maree Bay in memory of their stepfather, Erling Dyrstad '29, who dedicated himself to young people as an educator for more than 40 years. The scholarship is designated to upper class students who wish to become mathematics teachers and can show need for financial assistance.

The Roger C. and Carolyn J. Eigenfeld Scholarship, established by Roger and Carolyn Eigenfeld, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in the sciences, mathematics, or music with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dr. Herman E. Ellingson Scholarship, established by Dinniemaud Ellingson in honor of her husband, Herman Ellingson, class of 1924, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in mathematics or the physical sciences.

The Emerson Family Endowed Scholarship, established by Duane Emerson in memory of Ward H. and Gladys C. Emerson, Norman H. and Elizabeth M. Emerson, and Patricia Ann Emerson (all from Cedar Rapids, Iowa), shall be awarded to one or more qualified junior students majoring in mathematics, based upon academic performance.

The Espelie Family Endowed Scholarship, established in memory of Dr. M. Solveig Espelie '62, formerly professor of mathematics at Howard University, Washington, D.C. This scholarship shall be awarded to students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Jim Field Scholarship, established by Jim Field '54 in recognition of the significant influence Professors Herbert Rebassoo, Emil Miller, Orlando "Pip" Qualley, and Coach Hamlet "Pete" Peterson had on the value of Jim's Luther experience. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with financial need with preference given to students majoring in mathematics, computer science and education.

The Deborah '69 and John '68 Franke Scholarship, established by John '68 and Deborah (Lynam) Franke '69, shall be awarded to qualified students, without regard to financial need. Preference is to be given to junior or senior students with a double major in math and physics. If none are available, awards will be made to junior or senior students majoring in math or physics.

The Rodney M. Hall '58 Scholarship, established through an estate gift from Lorean K. Hall in memory of her husband, Rodney '58, shall be awarded to qualified students, with or without regard to financial need, with preference given to students majoring in mathematics.

The Paul G. and Hazel H. Hoel Scholarship in Mathematics and Science, established by Paul '26 and Hazel Hoel, shall be awarded to qualified sophomores or juniors, chosen by the faculty, majoring in mathematics, chemistry, or physics.

The Huseby-Luckner Scholarship, established by Warren '68 and Mary Luckner in honor of the lives of Robert H. Luckner, Doris (Nebeck) Luckner Huseby, and Morris A. Huseby, with thankfulness for their wisdom, love, and support. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students, with or without regard to financial need, pursuing a degree in mathematics or a career in the ministry.

The Iverson Scholarship, established by Vernon C. and Mary Ellen Iverson, to be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics, biology, chemistry, or physics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Robert S. Jacobsen Scholarship, established by the friends and family of Robert Jacobsen '37 in recognition of his forty-nine years of teaching at Luther College. Recipients shall be students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and are participating in programs of study leading to majors in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, or computer science.

The John L. Jones Scholarship, established by Robert '78 and Eric Jones in memory of their father, John L. (Jack) Jones '50. Jack grew up in Garnavillo and considered his Luther education and experience to be the pivotal time in his life that made him a later success in business. His Luther education provided him with the foundation he needed to participate in designing and constructing the first electronic computer, UNIVAC, and to participate in the creation of the first universal computer programming language, COBOL. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified Iowa students in need of financial assistance majoring in computer science or mathematics, who have grown up on an Iowa farm or in an Iowa farming community, with first preference given to students from Garnavillo, Iowa, or Clayton County, Iowa.

The Stephen E. and Susan L. Kraabel Actuarial Award, established by Stephen '63 and Susan Kraabel, and Timothy Kraabel '88, shall be awarded to students who have successfully passed an actuarial exam, sponsored by the Society of Actuaries or the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries, or a similar organization.

The Reginald D. Laursen Mathematics Scholarship, established by Marsha (Weckwerth) '82 and Lee Olch in honor and with gratitude to Reginald D. Laursen, who throughout his career, has been an extraordinary teacher and mentor to hundreds of Luther College students. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The David O. Lomen Award in Mathematics, established by Constance Lomen and Catherine Lomen-Hoerth to honor the memory of David O. Lomen '59, shall be awarded to a full-time junior or senior mathematics major, in excellent academic standing as determined by the mathematics faculty with consideration given to a student's character and involvement in the Luther community.

The Kenneth A. Lueder Scholarship in Mathematics, established through the estate of Kenneth Lueder '65, shall be awarded to students majoring in mathematics and who are enrolled in upper division courses in mathematics.

The Anne Lee Moilien Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Tim Moilien '34 in memory of his mother, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If no students qualify, preference shall then be given to a major in physics or chemistry.

The Jerrold L. Moilien Scholarship, established by Tim Moilien '34 in honor of Jerrold Moilien '28, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If no students qualify, preference shall then be given to a major in physics or chemistry.

The David Theodore Nelson Memorial Scholarship, established by Tim Moilien '34 in recognition of 42 years of service, leadership, and dedication to Luther by David Theodore Nelson, class of 1912, in many roles, including faculty member, head of the English department, coach, business manager, advisor to the debate team and other student organizations, and acting president. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If no students in mathematics are available, preference shall be given to students majoring in physics or chemistry.

The Stuart D. Nevermann Scholarship, established through the estate of Janelle (Johnson) Nevermann '58, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students majoring in mathematics, accounting, and/or education.

The Oscar L. Olson Memorial Scholarship, established by Tim Moilien '34 in memory of Oscar L. Olson, class of 1893, the third president of Luther College. Olson returned to Luther in 1901 to teach English. The first layman to become president of a major Lutheran college, Olson was chosen to fill the position after the death of C.K. Preus in 1921. Olson served as president from 1921-1932, and continued teaching English until his retirement in 1952. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If no mathematics students qualify, then it shall be awarded to students majoring in physics or chemistry.

The Outstanding Women in Math and Statistics Scholarship, established by Doug Kintzinger '82 and Rachel (Kintzinger) Harpham '90, shall be awarded to upper class women majoring in mathematics who exhibit academic excellence and a strong work ethic, with preference given to students interested in graduate study or a career in statistics.

The Herman A. and Florence N. Preus Scholarship, established through the estates of Herman A. '16 and Florence N. Preus in memory of Herman's parents, C.K. '73 and Louise Preus, shall be awarded to students of exceptional academic ability and achievement, with demonstrated need for financial assistance, pursuing a concentration in languages (modern or classic), literature, history, philosophy, religion, ethics, or pure mathematics.

The Rebassoo Family Scholarship, originally established by the college as the Herbert J. Rebassoo Scholarship in recognition of the service of the late Dr. Herbert J. Rebassoo, professor emeritus of mathematics, who taught at Luther College from 1949 until his early death, at age 59, in 1971. The scholarship has grown largely through the support of his wife, Niina, a 1958 Luther graduate who taught German at Decorah High School for 25 years; his son Vaho, a Math Ph.D. who enjoyed a career as an IT executive; and David Knudson ’61, a student of Rebassoo’s at Luther who went on to receive his Ph.D. and later teach at the University of Washington, where Vaho was in his graduate algebra class. Dr. Rebassoo was forced to flee his native Estonia in 1944; having worked as Minister of Education, his life was at risk under the impending Soviet occupation. He fled with his wife to Germany, where they lived in a refugee camp under American administration for 5 years, and their sons Peep and Vaho were born. A third son, Arvi, was born in Decorah. In 1949, with sponsorship from the Lutheran Church in Iowa, the Rebassos immigrated to the U.S., with the promise of a custodial job at Waldorf College. As he had done most of his work for a math Ph.D. at Tartu University before the war, Rebassoo applied for an instructor position at Luther, and was hired. He finished his Ph.D. work at Wisconsin while on sabbatical and became known for his dedication to teaching and for setting high expectations for his students, as he did for himself. He was particularly proud of students who applied themselves, who did well, and who were accepted to graduate programs. Niina Rebassoo was for many students a favorite teacher, as she brought the German language to life with stories of Germany, Estonia, and European culture; and commentaries on social mores. She consistently had students rank among the top German students in Iowa. The Rebassoo family wishes for this scholarship to now honor the memories of both Herbert and Niina Rebassoo. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be giving to students in mathematics or science.

The Richard H. and Donna L. Rima Scholarship, established by Richard '69 and Donna Rima, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students majoring in mathematics and/or economics.

The Daniel and Marilyn Rivers Mathematics Scholarship, established by Daniel '67 and Marilyn Rivers, shall be awarded to qualified students of good academic standing with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to junior or senior students majoring in mathematics who have interest in completing a graduate degree in the field.

The Harold K. Savre Scholarship, established by Robert Savre '53 in memory of his father, Harold Savre '24, and in commemoration of B.K. Savre '96, father of Harold, who had strong ties to Luther as a former professor and a member of the board of trustees. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to upper-class students majoring in mathematics, or upper-class students majoring or minoring in mathematics working towards a secondary education certificate.

The David and Anne Seltzer Scholarship, established through the estate of Anne Seltzer, expressing the gratitude of David and Anne for Luther's kindness to their daughter, Barbara '85, and the family during a time of extreme family stress. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to English and/or mathematics majors.

The William P. Sihler Memorial Scholarship, established by Tim Moilien '34 in memory and recognition of William "Buddy" Sihler, for his fifty years of service and dedication to the college in his many roles as faculty, baseball player, coach, author, inventor, composer, and mentor. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If no mathematics students qualify, then it shall be awarded to students majoring in physics or chemistry.

The Carl W. Strom Memorial Scholarship, established by Tim Moilien '34 in memory and recognition of Carl W. Strom, for his role as faculty member and registrar. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in mathematics who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If no mathematics students qualify, then it shall be awarded to students majoring in physics or chemistry.

The Chad M. and Melissa L. Thomley Scholarship, established by Chad '92 and Melissa (Bonikowske) Thomley '93, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to mathematics majors from Wisconsin, with second preference given to mathematics majors, and third preference to students from Wisconsin.

The Tokheim Scholarship, established by Paul '69 and Elizabeth (Tenold) Tokheim '70, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to junior or senior students with a math or science major.

The Merriam H. Trytten Memorial Scholarship, established to honor the memory of Dr. Merriam H. Trytten '16, physicist, teacher, humanist, and international authority on scientific manpower. Dr. Trytten was Luther College student, teacher, and regent. The scholarship shall be awarded to junior or senior students of high overall academic achievement, majoring in physics, mathematics, and/or computer science.

The Arlo D. and Agnes K. Woolery Scholarship, established by Arlo '43 and Agnes (Kvaase) Woolery '43, shall be awarded to qualified students who demonstrate academic excellence, participation in extra-curricular activities, and leadership qualities. Preference shall be given to students who are majoring in biology or mathematics from Lake Mills High School, Lake Mills, Iowa, or if none, then from rural areas surrounding Lake Mills, Iowa.

The Xie Scholarship for Math, established by Enwei Xie '94 and Lynn Tonglao, shall be awarded to qualified international students, underrepresented minorities (African American, Native American, Hispanic), and women who intend to major in mathematics, and who have a proven track record of excellence in this field of study.
