Happy Thanksgiving
Offices can close early and staff are permitted to leave work at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 27. Most nonexempt employees scheduled to work eight hours on Wednesday will work six hours and receive two hours of additional pay. Those employees who will have already worked their shift by 3 p.m. or those who must work their full shift because of the nature of their position will be given the option of taking two hours of paid time off on a different day. If there are any questions, please contact your immediate supervisor or Human Resources.

Christmas at Luther parking notice
In order to accommodate the large number of visitors expected for Christmas at Luther we need to make adjustments in parking area designations. While we realize these adjustments will create some inconvenience for our personnel and students they are necessary for logistical reasons.
The Valders parking lot will be converted to a Handicapped Only lot from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 until 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Alternative staff parking includes the Library lot, Farwell lot, Regents lot and the roadway from Valders out to College Drive. The lots adjacent the CFL will also be designated as Handicapped only for the performances but will be available for normal usage during the day until 4 p.m. Thursday-Sunday.
Student vehicles must be removed from the Library, Jenson and City Pool lots by 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, until after 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Alternative parking areas for these days include Regents lot, Farwell lot and the Dike Road.
Exception: Commuter students, with the proper permit, may park in the Commuter designated row in the Library lot from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Dec. 5-6. Students may not park in faculty, staff or visitor areas during these nights. Regular parking regulations will go back into effect at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9. Any vehicle parked out of compliance with this directive is subject to a $25 fine under the Luther College Parking Regulations. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Please direct any questions regarding this special event parking to Campus Security, 387-2111.
There is now a handicap accessible map of Luther College available at the information desk in Union as well as on www.luther.edu/disabilityservices.

Tickets for the March 1 event are selling quickly and will be gone in a few weeks. Information and registration at nobelpeaceprizeforum.org. Carpooling is encouraged. For the March 8-9 events, Luther will be chartering a bus, with housing provided by Augsburg College students in their residence hall rooms. More details will follow in February. For now, interested persons should purchase tickets for the Forum using the link above because last year everything sold out. Questions? Contact Karen Martin-Schramm, <kms>.

Local chips available in C-Store
Pick up a bag of Sterzing's Potato Chips, made in Burlington, Iowa, in the C-Store. Sterzing's began operations in 1933. The company began shipping their chips to America's soldiers during the Vietnam War—Sterzing's still provides treats from home to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. For more information go to: sterzingchips.com.
Don't forget to tag your bike
In an attempt to rid campus of abandoned bikes from bike racks on campus, members of the Luther community are asked to tag their bike if they plan on using their bike during the winter months. Bike tags can be obtained from the Welcome Desk. The tag this year is bright orange; the yellow tag from last year will not suffice. All bikes that do not have an orange tag will be removed on Dec. 20. Luther is not responsible for replacing locks or cables that may need cut for removal of bikes. Contact Gary Brickman with questions, <brickmga>.
Health insurance change
Gundersen will join the Midland's Choice network as of Dec. 1, 2013. Employees who are currently in the Gundersen Network will be issued new insurance cards reflecting the change in network.
There are two forums scheduled in Mott to answer benefit questions, 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, and 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.
27 biweekly paychecks in 2013
Because the biweekly pay date for the pay period ending Dec. 20 would have fallen on Jan. 1, a bank holiday, that payroll will be paid on Dec. 31. This will have two consequences. First, this will be the 27th pay check in 2013 and will show up on employees' 2013 W-2 instead of their 2014 W-2. There will still be 26 paychecks in 2014. Second, this will be the third payroll in December, so flex and health deductions will not come out of this paycheck. To make changes to the Dec. 31 payroll, for instance, to your SRA contributions or W-4s, submit forms to the payroll office as soon as possible, but no later than Dec. 18. Forms are available at https://www2.luther.edu/hr/
Sign up for W-2's online
All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up to receive electronic W-2's using my.luther.edu. The W-2 Electronic Consent option is included in the employee profile section of my.luther.edu. If you chose the electronic option for your 2012 W-2, then you do not need to do it again for 2013. More detailed instructions and additional information can be found by clicking the W-2 Options link on the HR website https://www2.luther.edu/hr/
TIAA-CREF
Employees may access the Luther’s TIAA-CREF website at any time to view the most recent quarterly investment reports for both the Defined Contribution and Tax-Deferred Annuity Plans.
Go to www.tiaa-cref.org/luther, click on "Plans and Investments." Choose either the Defined Contribution or the Tax-Deferred Annuity information link. Then click on "More about this plan and investment choices." On the left side of the page there is a menu. Click on "Plan Performance Card (PDF)." The most recent quarterly report will be shown in pdf format.
TIAA-CREF retirement accounts
Participants in the TIAA-CREF supplemental retirement accounts may elect to have up to $17,500 deducted from their paychecks during both 2013 and 2014. The Plan allows participants to make additional "Age 50 Catch-up" contributions if they are age 50 or older by the last day of the year. The "Age 50 Catch-up" is limited to $5,500 for 2013 and for 2014 (making a total of $23,000 for each year). Employees may call Human Resources, 387-1134 or Payroll, 387-1135, if they are unsure as to their current deduction, or if they wish to increase their deductions for the remainder of 2013 and for 2014.
Biweekly payroll Dec. 4
Cabinet has approved Nov. 28-29 as holidays. This holiday schedule limits time for processing bi-weekly payroll for the pay period ending Nov. 22 with a pay date of Dec. 4. Therefore, timecards for the pay period ending Nov. 22 will be due in the Payroll Office by noon on Monday, Nov. 25.
Supervisors, please review and sign all time cards, and deliver them to the Payroll Office by noon Monday, Nov. 25. Contact Korrine in the Payroll Office, 387-1135, or Andrew in the Office for Financial Service, 387-1697.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Flexible spending account dollars deducted from employee paychecks during 2013 may be used for eligible expenses through March 15, 2014. Claims for these dollars must be submitted to Midwest Group Benefits by March 31, 2014. Claim forms are available in human resources and on the hr website: https://www2.luther.edu/hr/
