Basil, basil, get your basil
Luther gardeners have an abundance of beautiful basil and we want to share it with you. Whether you're craving just a few sprigs to spice up some pizza or a pound for making pesto, we can accommodate your needs. Basil giveaway will be on the patio near the Valders Edible Landscape Wednesday, Aug. 15, noon-1 p.m. Get there early; we may run out.

Healthy snacks available every day in Luther's edible landscapes

Whether you're looking for something to spice up your salad at lunchtime or could use a few herbs for an evening meal, the campus edible landscapes may have what you need.  The "Off the Vine" garden, located near Valders Hall of Science, offers such treats as ground cherries, cherry tomatoes, peppers, various herbs, cucumbers and malabar spinach. In the "Diversity Garden," located near Ylvisaker Hall you can find eggplant, peppers, mini melons, swiss chard and lacinato kale. Take yourself on a self-guided tour of these gardens and pick up some snacks along the way. Be sure to close the gate when you're done—the deer and rabbits like the fresh produce as much as we do.

Thank you

Many thanks to the entire Luther community from Empowering Learners. Your personal gifts, gifts-in-kind and good wishes mean so much to us. This summer, 12 of us traveled and delivered additional educational supplies to our Lutheran schools in the far north of Namibia. As we now embark on our third year of fundraising, we celebrate the results of our efforts. Through your generosity you have helped us send: 19,000 library books/text books/encyclopedias, 65 computers/laptops, 50 TI83 calculators, dozens of Braille books, educational toys and soccer balls, and outright cash support. Everything we accomplish is in partnership with you our donors. Thank you so much.

Sustainability tip

Cook with a microwave instead of the stove or oven when possible. If cooking over the stove, use the smallest pots and pans needed to cook your meal, your food will cook quicker, you'll conserve energy and you'll produce less heat.
